“when things heat up, cool off!”

Between the desert weather conditions and the casinos, things can heat up on a trip to Reno pretty quickly. But luckily, there's a quick and easy way to escape the heat and the hustle-- and you don't even have to leave the city limits to find it! Wingfield Park is the city's very own river park that's so full of things to see and do, you could spend an entire day exploring it and the river around it. It's so scenic that you'll probably even forget that you're in the middle of the Biggest Little City. The park, technically an island accessible by bridges in the middle of the Truckee River, is the hub of activity for kayaking and rafting down the Truckee, and it's also a great place to begin a fishing expedition. The kayak route is a level 2/3, which means that beginners will be able to manuever it, but it will still provide a bit of fun for more experience paddlers. There are also multiple points were swimmers can wade right into the middle of the whitewater park. The river has tons of drops and pools and a constant stream of cool, fresh water-- but not so much so that anyone is in danger or being swept away. Even during dry spells, the river continues to flow, which is convenient, because the best time to take a swim or a kayak trip is usually during a dry, hot drought. Even if you don't want to get in the water, the island itself is pretty big and great for exploring; it's the perfect spot for a picnic, and if you're lucky, you might stumble upon an art show, concert, movie night, or other event along the grassy knolls or at the ampitheater. Join a game of pickup basketball, or just watch people playing on the courts and fields. It's even great just for taking a quick walk: there are tons of paths, bridges, scenic viewpoints, benches, and public art installations! Plus, it goes without saying that this is a great place for people-watching. -Roadtrippers  Wingfield park is a urban oasis nestled in the heart of the Riverwalk district. Within a short walking distance from the Downtown casinos, Wingfield park offers a great environment for various outdoor activities. Whether you enjoy kayaking, fishing, rafting, swimming, sun bathing, people watching, or picnicking you will enjoy the park and it’s natural scenic beauty . Wingfield Park is the center location for some of the city’s most popular events including the Reno River Festival, manyArtown events and the annual Nevada Humane Society Duck Race & Festival to name a few. One of the main features of Wingfield Park is the amphitheater where various plays and concerts take place during the summer months. The park itself is divided into 5 different sections: Wingfield Park West Island, Wingfield Park East Island, Barbra Bennett Park, Bicentennial Park and Brick Park. Wingfield is also home to the Truckee River Whitewater Park which surrounds the park. Along the parks you will find a variety of bridges, walking paths, vantage points, basketball courts, tennis courts, art installations, picnic tables, amphitheater, all nestled away in a relaxing environment where you can connect with nature without leaving the city.

The people of Reno are so lucky! This place is awesome. You can swim and wade, and kayak and raft and fish, or just walk around... there's an ampitheater and they do events and concerts fairly often. They keep the park very clean, too. Such an awesome use of the island!
