“The historic home of Cassius Clay”

Nestled in rolling farmland, the home was built in the late 1700’s, with a major addition constructed in the 1860’s. The mansion, built in Georgian and Italianate styles, boasts nearly ten thousand square feet with modern innovations of the time such as central heating and indoor plumbing. Cassius Marcellus Clay’s historic home, built in 1798 by his father, is said to be haunted by Clay himself, his wife, and his son. Witnesses to the hauntings have described moving candle lights, footsteps and other unexplained sounds and even smells, and violin and piano music. Apparitions of the three ghosts have been seen as well. The state historic site is open for tours at some times during the year.
