“100 acre Victorian estate”
Maymont is a 100-acre American estate, an extraordinary gift given to us by James and Sallie Dooley who lived here from 1893 to 1925. Whether strolling in the gardens, touring the mansion or watching river otters play, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Please note: though admission to most places is free, it is requested that you donate a minimum of $5 to keep the grounds beautiful and open to the public!
This place is totally awesome. We will be back coming back to Richmond in large part because of this place. Had a great time. Reminiscent of Longwood Gardens and Hershey PA (imagine a mashup of the two--minus the theme park). Japanese Garden and Italian Garden are gorgeous. Don't miss this and set aside at least half a day to bum around.
The grounds are very popular, and free to enter (aside from a suggested donation). Very crowded on a Sunday afternoon, but there are a lot of areas to explore if you are interested in walking.
