“Stay rooted, but branch out.”
At Shagbark, we showcase the enormous bounty of Virginia by becoming a stage for local farmers, fisherman, and artisans. The name comes from a Shagbark hickory tree that grew along the James River. Several Shagbark accents are woven throughout our restaurant design, including our show-stopping communal table. Reserve a table in one of our main dining rooms, or simply walk in for an impromptu gathering in our Bar Lounge or Patio. Whatever your preference, Shagbark brings community together around the table. Chef & Owner Walter Bundy has been leading our seasonally driven team since opening in June 2016. Sommeliers Rodney Rosser and Derek Salerno curate our extensive beverage program, including innovative cocktails and our wine list of over 275 offerings. With our modern approach to up-south cuisine, this history provides a base from which everything else in the future is possible.
