“The perfect fishing, relaxing and camping spot!”
Head to Cooney State Park's reservoir 40 minutes south of Billings to boat, play in the water, camp, and fish. This is the most popular recreation area serving south central Montana, and it's always a busy place in the summer! The park features good walleye and rainbow trout fishing, abundant boating opportunities, and five campgrounds with 72 campsites available daily around the lake. Thirteen campsites with electricity are available. Cooney State Park is a 309 acre site at 4,252 feet in elevation. The park offers three boat ramps with docks and a fish cleaning station at Red Lodge Arm. At the Marshall Cove Campground there are no pets allowed.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on July 02, 2022This is a constellation of small campgrounds surrounded by an ocean of washboard gravel. Once you make it into the park, it’s quaint and pretty nice, but gaw... I’ll pass on the 12-mile gravel stretches.
I stayed at the Marshall Cove campground — three sites had electric/water and the rest were dry. Calm, pretty reservoir, screech owls, pelicans and heron. It seems like mostly locals come here. There are restrooms and showers but the showers were closed.
As far as I can tell, there were no dump stations at any of the campgrounds, which makes this less than ideal for longer stays but an interesting stop if you want the state park experience.

We stayed here April 3rd, and the weather was perfect and not windy. There was sandy/rocky beaches along the campground which were full of birds in the marshy area. There was also a large playground for our son to play on.

Campground is a great area with lots of kids, people, boats. The campsites were reasonably far apart. The road to the campground is bumpy, curvy, and gravel. The main host is an ex-fireman who knew a lot about the area.
Weekends are extremely crowded but weekdays are peaceful.
