“the home of the son of a New York governor”
This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. The Colden House Mansion Ruins - Colden House was established and built by governor Cadwallader Colden's son, Cadwallader Colden Jr., in 1767. It is alleged that it was abandoned in sometime in the 1930's. Over the years the decay of the home has continued but efforts to keep the walls standing and the ruins stabilized are in place. This old home can be seen right off of State Route 17K. You can check out more here http://www.abandonedplaygrounds.com/colden-house-mansion-ruins-abandoned-off-the-highway-in-new-york/
When I was young (I am 75 now), we used to drive past the mansion on our way home from Middletown. It was in disarray then but I remember that in the carriage house their was a wonderful large carriage sitting there. It was also worn and partially open to the weather. I so hope that someone saved that before it was completely ruined. Back then you could just walk in. The floors and wood structure was still there. When you get old, you remember things others never saw. That is kind of nice. Pass on your stories.
