It's a nice Easter weekend and the park's current inhabitants are blaring Mexican music and we snagged the last reservation according to the TSP website. The majority of people are speaking Spanish and I'm happy for the continued practice.
On the other hand, as Texas State Parks go, the sites are small and not terribly private. Most folks have a trailer, maybe a boat and multiple vehicles, which spill into other sites and the street. It's a real Semana Santa of a celebration.
The park rangers don't seem to mind the noise, and neither do I given the holiday weekend. A few days later and I might have a different opinion.
The lake here is formed by a reservoir that also serves as a border crossing, and there are plenty of people enjoying the more aquatic recreations. I'm still on Telcel's network and getting 1-3 bars of 3G service, which is what I'm posting this with, but I checked the other carriers too. No Verizon, no T-mobile, and AT&T jumps from 1-3 bars so I'll give her the old 2 bar average.
The crickets are a-fiddlin' so I'll end it with that.

We were here during a very non-busy time. We stayed in an electric and waterspace. So we had a better experience than the other person who reviewed the park. We were going to stay one night but ended up staying two because we liked it here so much. We drove into the town of Roma which has a small historic section. We did have cell service up above but below where the Primitive sites were, we had none. A lot of people come back here year after year staying several months. We would definitely stay here again. The Primitive sites were hardly used so even though they were not very private, there was a lot of space between those that were camped there. They also had a nice view of the lake. Our site was "Electric Only" but also had water. 50 amp. The nightly cost was $16 plus $3 per person park entrance fee. We camped in March 2019. All sites are curved pull through with a covered picnic shelter and grassy area with a fire pit. Our rig has no slide outs, 36' long. We fit just fine but larger rigs, or rigs with slide outs may have a few more challenges. Regarding TV, we had three channels (only one in English). No WIFI, but cell phone signal was adequate.
This campground is well maintained. We picked it because we read about the "Texas Tropics" trail. We followed it to the campground; however, their definition of tropical doesn't match ours!
The trails were nice and the wildflowers were beautiful. We saw roadrunners, wild boars, and other critters! There were no supplemental lights in the campground.
Full hook-up sites were getting sewer upgrades and were closed off for now.

Falcon Park is a smaller state park, but it’s a nice stop along the Rio Grande Valley. We stayed 4 nights but 2-3 are plenty if you just want to explore the park. Some stayed weeks with their boat to go fishing. Site 119 and 120 are great sites with good space and a peak of a water view. Also in the full h/u area, sites 214-216 have slight water views as well. Otherwise the rest of the sites are all pretty similar. You will see a million birds and javelina might venture through your campsite (but they could care less about us or our dogs).
Pros: quiet, walkable, butterfly garden is pretty, inexpensive, nice camp hosts. Park is easily biked from one end to the other. Nice areas to walk down by the water. Tons of birding opportunities. All pull thru sites. Each site has a good amount of natural barrier between the other.
Cons: Not much to do without a boat. The lake area is a good walk or short ride from camping. There is only one hiking loop of 3 miles which is uneventful. Not much in surrounding towns. Grocery market is small and expensive unless you drive 45 mins to H-E-B. They are all pull thru loops, so you’ll have one side of RV along the street.
Big rigs: take the longest spot available. The pull throughs can be a tight turn. We had site 120 listed at 89 feet and it was good for our 42’ 5th wheel. We saw another 5er that had trouble and had to take site 117 instead of whatever they booked.
Overall it’s a great quiet place to relax for a few days especially if you are into birding!

We really enjoyed our stay here. If this park is on your list please take a look at the video on this site. There's not too much I can add. They did an excellent job describing this park and area. Not being from Texas I wasn't sure what to expect from this part of Tx, but what a great experience! The local culture, geography, and wildlife have made it a very memorable time. We also enjoyed the synchronized light show every night from the nearby wind generator farm. We are here in early May and some of the days have been over 100 degrees but with the constant breezes, it's bearable. If your a TV fan bring your satellite dish or lots of data for steaming. Channel 40 and a few ch's from Mexico is it.

Came here because everywhere else was booked for TX spring break. Although its a ways from everything else, we were pleasantly surprised with our visit. The trails were nice and gave you a different vibe from trail to trail. We saw Javelinas and Road Runners and heard coyotes at all hours.

Great site, restrooms, hot showers. Trails ring the park, swimming in the reservoir and watching the Javelina graze. Very nice, if I had a boat it would be perfect.
