“Taste the flavor of Ohio!”

Barrel Run Crossing Winery and Vineyard Inc is a family business designed to utilize high-quality grapes and produce superior wines self-sufficient on the site in Northeast Ohio. Becoming leaders of the industry, the business will continually set the standard for excellence in quality and value. We will create products that all customers can enjoy.  Barrel Run Crossing Winery and Vineyard Inc was derived from a family run farm that has been in existence for 4 generations. It started with a passion for farming and a desire to keep the existing family farm in agricultural usage for the foreseeable future. Traditionally grain crops, hay, soybeans, and wheat, have been grown with an initial vineyard planting in 2006. Additional plantings have occurred in each subsequent year now totaling 10 acres of vineyard made up of 8 varieties chosen specifically for our region and climate. The interest in starting a winery arose after a few trips to Sonoma County and living in a winery region in North Carolina with a mentor/winery owner nearby. Having had these experiences, winemaking began first as a hobby. After much research on grape growing in Ohio, it was soon discovered that our land was a premier location and climate for wine grapes. A 1 acre test plot was planted in 2006 with an additional 7 acres planted the following year. 2 more acres were added the subsequent year to total 10 acres. Each year replacement vines have also been planted for those that sustained frost or cold temperature damage. The winery business plan was initially developed in 2006 and all members have undergone extensive self-training. An agronomy background made for an easy transition to planting, fertilizing and spraying grapes. One member of the team completed 5 online UC Davis California courses and received a Winemaking Certificate. Many hours were also spent by the team working in the winery in North Carolina and learning the practical day to day operations of a small winery. There are several other employees which have been vital to the business thus far. Pruning, planting, harvesting, and assisting in the winemaking operations are just a few of the many tasks that they participate in. Our 3 main goals are to maintain economic viability, produce a regional product, and to demonstrate community responsibility. We have created a business model incorporating agriculture that is financially sustainable. Our second goal is to create a truly Ohio wine produced from Ohio grapes that is a superior product. Lastly, we intend to keep the land agricultural and add jobs to the local community.
