“A unique architectural icon”
This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. Designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in 1968, the Futuro home was once hailed as a defining moment in 1960s utopian architectural design. Now, many lay abandoned, rotting away throughout America. He was supposed to design a ski lodge, but instead created an 8-meter in diameter "rotating ellipsoid," which became an iconic and defining image of the 1960s. However, in reality, the Futuro home is an architectural failure. Only about 60 of the prefabricated homes were every produced.
UPDATE: As of mid 2019 this awesome structure has been cleaned up and painted! Area276 is back!
This place was cool except that the steps to get in aren’t even really connected and are falling off so you must be careful if you’re going to take your kiddos! Inside is some graffiti and broken glass, maybe a condom or two so yeah. Don’t hangout long. Just cool to see in and that’s about it. Would be great if restored and protected!
The weeds scared me off of climbing into it, but it was open and bright orange. Located on a person's driveway, but they didn't seem too concerned about visitors. I'm not a fan of snakes so I didn't dare the weeds. Better luck to you.
looks like they might be fixing it up. was definitely painted fairly recently and the door was missing. graffiti inside is still very vulgar. cool pictures tho
If you're within 20 miles of this place, do it! Quirky stop along the way. The main "door" is locked, but we were able to climb in through the window holes. Cool spot to take photos! Not for younger kids though. The graffiti inside is somewhat vulgar and there are nails sticking out in places. There are unpleasant weeds around it and you may find a wasp or spider. Overall, an awesome, unique place to visit for 15 minutes!
would luv to have this to live in
Cleaned up since some of these pics were taken. Big scary spiders inside but still fun to see.
I definitely don’t recommend getting too close. This is fenced off with no trespassing signs around it and in someone’s front yard.
Neat little stop. Grass was cut, we were able to climb inside. Just watch your step some of the floor has fallen in.
Visited on 03/02/18. Door was open and grass was low. Driveway belongs to the Futuro House so that's where we parked. Neat little stop.
