“preserve the rich historical culture of Firefighters”
Our exhibits take you on a journey through the history of the San Antonio Fire Department starting with the Volunteers of 1854, through 1891 (when SAFD became a paid department), to present day. Vehicles from three different eras, equipment from times gone by, communications (from telegraph, radios to computers), the progression of the EMS system, and specialized divisions of the San Antonio Fire Department are some of the many things you will experience during your visit. Along with the exhibits, you'll enjoy stories from our Active and Retired Firefighting Volunteer Docents. Don't forget to check out our gift shop for an opportunity to take some memories of your visit home with you.
