“Home of the world's best fish taco!”
“Bon Appetit’s America’s Best Restaurants”: South Beach Bar & Grill - FINALIST BEST TACOS Just a few miles west of downtown San Diego, lies Ocean Beach, one of the few remaining classic California beach towns. In the heart of OB, at the end of palm-lined Newport Avenua just a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean, sits the South Beach Bar & Grille. Home of the world-famous mahi fish taco, South Beach has drawn a lively mix of locals and visitors since opening in 1992. Grab a seat at the long wooden bar and watch the sun set behind the crashing surf as you order from a full bar featuring 22 tequilas and more than 40 beers, including several from award-winning San Diego breweries. In addition to the mahi tacos, diners choose from a variety of fresh seafood including lobster, wahoo, shark, calamari and shrimp, as well as burgers, chicken and vegetarian options.
RACIST ESTABLISHMENT!!!! WARNING!!! This is my second time coming to OB South Beach Bar Grill. On the night of New Years eve at 5pm I came with my bf to have dinner. I was harassed horribly by a security/bouncer. I am a 29 year old black female. I was first told my photo did not look like me told I could not enter. I was then asked for not one but 3 FORMS of ID?! When I gave this to the bouncer, he still did not believe I was the same person. No one else has ever said it was NOT me. I was then asked for my ID just to leave the bar with my same ID, he then told me he would not give it to me. This was after I presented 3 FORMS of ID, a CA ID, a drivers license, and a bank card. He then asked for me to write my signature 3 times. By this time it was not even to enter the bar since I was not interested in entering but wanted to leave. Many other establishments are on the same street, why would I face this harassment when I can go to another. He then told me to call a cop to get my ID back, again this was after the 3 forms of ID, and writing my signature not once but 3 times!!!!!!!!! I asked to see a manager and was denied. I have never been treated this way at any establishment. I have a masters degree and pay my taxes. I only saw one other black person in the establishment so the only reasoning I can find is THIS BOUNCER WAS RACIST. Why were other patrons clearly younger than me allowed to enter with their PASSPORTS. Most bars I have been to in the north county do not allow passports as a form of ID for entry. I was not even trying to buy alcohol. I had no single drop of alcohol all night. I was trying to go to the grill, and after the excessive harassment I was trying to LEAVE, but wasn't allowed to. I can find no other reason than clear and plan racism, but this establishment and the bouncer a RED haired bearded man clearly with little education wouldn't allow me too. He then laughed in my face, and called me UGLY for not looking like my driver license which I had renewed less than 4 months earlier. My bf who is a white Marine and also does security on the side has never treated anyone like this. This was excessive and horrible. I have gotten horrible service here and now I have been treated like less than a citizen by a simple minded bouncer. I literally went next door and ordered food and a beer with NO problem or second thought. I truly believe racism exist at this establishment. It is the silent strange double standards that still exist today that prove it is alive in places like this.
