Iconic Attraction

Our Take

It's fair to compare San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to Central Park, but few realize that it's actually larger. Good use is made of the park's ample space and it contains museums, gardens, a conservatory, lakes, a bison paddock, and facilities for sports of all sorts, among other things. With so much nature to get in touch with, it's not hard to see why the park was essentially where the Summer of Love started.

“find out what’s happening in San Francisco’s backyard”

Golden Gate Park, located in San Francisco, California, is a large urban park consisting of 1,017 acres (412 ha) of public grounds. Configured as a rectangle, it is similar in shape but 20% larger than Central Park in New York, to which it is often compared. With 13 million visitors annually, Golden Gate is the third most visited city park in the United States after Central Park in New York City andLincoln Park in Chicago. Within Golden Gate Park’s 1,017 acres you’ll discover gardens, playgrounds, lakes, picnic groves, trails, and monuments, plus an array of cultural venues, events, and activities. A beautiful, popular park. If you're visiting and have a couple hours, bike through the park!

Lots to see and do here! Waterfalls, bison, museums, paths and trails, memorials, gardens, ponds.... however there are busy highly trafficked streets running through which can ruin the effect at times

Lots of hiking and scenery to explore if that's the kind of thing you're into. The scale and beauty of Golden Gate is perhaps only rivaled by New Yorks Central Park. Not only are there natural attractions to see, Golden Gate also has an antique carousel for the family. Highly recommend.
