Coyote Point is a regional recreation area that provides a wide variety of opportunities: picnicking, swimming, windsurfing, bicycling, jogging, fishing, boating, and sailing. Kids will love the giant, castle-and-dragon-themed Magic Mountain Playground. Spectacular natural history exhibits of the Bay Area can be found at CuriOdyssey, where you can observe and listen to live animals at the Wildlife Habitats. Stroll along the beach promenade, visit the marina and its breakwater, or explore the saltwater marsh. See shorebirds, colorful boats, windsurfers, and planes from the San Francisco International Airport. Dogs are permitted only on Coyote Point's Bay Trail and only on leash.
We stayed here for the maximum of one week in October 2019 and really enjoyed the prime location to San Francisco. It’s very close to SFO airport so there is some noise but it was chilly on the bay and the noise didn’t bother us at all. It is $45 per night fee and there is a $7 reservation fee. Maximum space is 36 feet and there’s room to park a tow / toad vehicle in front. The RV spaces are basically just in a parking lot where the kite/wind surfers hang out, which was awesome to watch. There’s a HUGE playground behind the four RV spots which was busy on the weekend for birthday parties. The bathrooms are meh, no private shower stalls in the men’s. Water and 20AMP electric only, large cement picnic table with BBQ charcoal grill and there’s a dump station in the park a few minutes drive. The park rangers were all very friendly. The park itself is well maintained, there is a marina, CuriOdyssey (kids museum) board sports rental place. We enjoyed walking down the bay pathway watching the kite and wind surfers and planes overhead. The location is right near CA 101 and prime access to San Francisco: about 30min to Fisherman’s Wharf and 45min to Golden Gate Bridge! There’s yummy Chinese food nearby at Hot Wok Bistro and Safeway Grocery Store down the street. Several coin laundry mats as well. We would definitely stay here again! Have fun!
Tried to make a reservation online and it appeared that no dates (ever!) were available for the 4 campsites, so we called them and they explained that the site is closed until further notice because "The Promenade" is being worked on.
From sunrise to about 1am, you will experience a constant flow of loud low flying planes landing into SFO. Our trailer, literally, will rumble as if we’re in an earthquake, when the bigger jets take off. We finally came up with an analogy that it’s like living next to an active volcano. The eruptions come at the rate of a dozen per hour. Only in the wee hours between 1 am and 5 did things quiet down.
I must say, though, the spectacle is fascinating, during the day, when you can watch these massive machines float a few hundred feet above the bay on their glide path to the runway. Oddly, I did not find it as annoying as places we’ve stayed where you can hear the freeway, or the park is next to train tracks.
And, even more annoying is the humane society works, right next to the Camp area. Barking dogs and crowing roosters were way more of a problem than the jet’s.
The wind has been relentless during our 4 night stay. But that has made for great sail board watching. This place packs in those enthusiasts, and it’s interesting to see.
There is only a 15 amp circuit for power. If you happen to use more then it can handle, and blow a breaker after 5pm, you’ll be out of luck for a reset until morning, when the staff arrive. You’ll need the correct adapter to plug your rig in.
We have yet to locate a dump station, but we will look again tomorrow.
There is a very nice walk, or bike path around the park. It heads up to the eucalyptus grove and goes by the CuriOdessey, which is a science exploratorium and zoo. There’s also plenty of miles to bike along the bay, if you are up for leaving the park and following the paved paths.
All in all, it’s not really great camping here. It’s really just a parking lot. But, there are some interesting things about the place. We will will probably never stay here again, but it’s not the worst place we’ve stayed.
There are 4 RV parking spots available, each with 20A electric, fresh water, charcoal grill, and picnic table. These spots are just in the parking lot, but the lot is right on the water. There is also an RV dump station available on site in the parking lot of the Sherriff firing range. There is a sign posted that it cost a small fee to use, but it's included with the overnight fee. It can be a bit tight getting in there though.
I stayed here in my truck camper for 4 nights for Maker Faire and loved it. There was only one other RV there at the time.
My only minor complaint is that the park is pretty close to the SFO flight path, so you'll be hearing jets landing and taking off pretty often. It's not over the park. It's over the bay, and the sound carries over the water. That's the downside of being right on the water, I guess.
It's a very clean and well maintained park. Every ranger I interacted with was extremely pleasant to deal with. They left the restrooms unlocked at night for me and checked in on me any time they happened by when I was outside. Overall, this place was a great place to stay, and you couldn't ask for a better deal for an RV spot in the bay area,
