“rare and wonderful specimens of trees”
The Montalvo Arts Center includes rare and wonderful specimens of trees planted throughout its grounds. For example, the towering Bunya Pine (Araucaria bidwillii), planted on the Great Lawn, is sacred to the Aboriginal people of Australia and is a unique sight in Northern California. Recently, new plantings of rare and unusual trees have once again begun at Montalvo. Among these are Kashmir Cypress (Cupressus darjeelingensis) from the eastern Himalayas; Blue Needle Palm (Trithrinax campestris) from Argentina; and Eucryphia milliganii from Chile.
The villa is the perfect place to spend an active afternoon. Lounging on the great lawn or taking an intense hike through the gorgeous trees. There's concerts, art shows and the magic all around!
