“Prepare for the dark & the grime!”
The tour will take you 300 feet below the earth into the pitch blackness old-time miners, some as young as seven or eight, had to face. While you won’t have to deal with poisonous gases, you will feel the chill. The Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour is open from April 1st through November 30th and is closed only on Thanksgiving Day.
Definitely worth the trip. You travel in and out of the mine in a personnel mine car. Try to sit near the "front" so you can watch the sky disappear as you descend.
The tour makes it clear that mining was a multigenerational job. Boys as young as seven tended the doors between chamber. If you're traveling through this part of the state, this tour will give you an appreciation for what's beneath your feet.
Great tour. Our guide had been a miner for 25 years and was very knowledgeable. The tour is very informative and appropriate for all ages.
Way back in Season 1 of "The Office" Michael outsourced the office’s healthcare plan to Dwight, who gutted it. So, to make up for it he tried to make reservations at the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour mistakenly thinking it’s a fun thrill ride. A fun little tour.
I think it's a very good mine. I have been to many mines. It was very informative and Bob seemed more than willing to answer any questions. I was concerned of the chill but luckily I brought my scarf.
