Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on July 28, 2022Kohler-Andrae is a beautiful Wisconsin State Park near Lake Michigan, which is a short walk from the main camping areas.
The nature board walk through the sand dunes is worth the hike.
The park was mostly empty when we tent camped there in early November, but the sites are rather close together and it's heavily booked during the summer months.

Lived in Sheboygan as a kid and spent many days here and on the dunes. First time camping here to visit family. As beautiful as ever. Lot was fairly level and asphalt. Sites weren't too close. Convenient to shower and bathroom. Both were very clean. Walk on the dunes was great with the beautiful lake Michigan in view. Close to town with a golf course and Indian Mounds park on way in. Sheboygan offers lots to do and great local food and fish. we look forward to coming back next year for a visit.

Sites (135 family, 68 of them electric, 2 group sites and one teepee) are generous in size with varying amounts of privacy. Two loops have bathrooms with flush toilets and showers while two just have pit toilets. Bathrooms and showers were clean with expected light water pressure. There were also laundry facilities, something I’ve not seen before in a state park campground. Trails, a small marsh boardwalk and the dunes cordwalk provide a nice exploration of the area. We were there on a rainy weekday in September and it was quiet but I expect that would not be the case on weekends and in the summer.

Stayed here 1 night during a 6week road trip. Friday night in mid July and was still able to walk in Early on a Friday and get a site.
Spacious sites - the portion of the loop that 99 was on seemed more elevated, dryer and more free of underbrush than many of the others. Nice baths and showers.
Loved being on Lake Michigan and Sheboygan is a pretty cool little town nearby with lots to do.
Can sort of hear the drone of the highway nearby, but it’s not too bad.

We booked a last minute trip and got the last site available. There are some great spots and some not so great....but the park itself was wonderful. We enjoyed the beach, the pines, the dunes and their boardwalk. The park has lots to choose from.
Everything was super clean and well cared for. This park is definitely a jewel.

The park is really well-maintained like most Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-managed lands. All of the conventional back-in sites are paved and appear level. The undulating landscape along the nature trails are beautiful and certainly deserving of a your time. The boardwalk along the western marsh, cord walk along the sand dunes, and the overall lake breeze make this park one that will not disappoint.
The sites labeled "pull thru" are not what you might expect. Rather than pulling into your site onto an RV pad, the Kohler-Andrae pull thru sites are really just half-moon-shaped parking niches paralleled along the road. The most difficult aspect of this is having to literally parallel park your tow vehicle and RV into your campsite! No exaggeration...we arrived at our pull thru site just around 18:30, so the campers in sites 45 and 47 were already occupied. And since there was now area to really turn around, we had to loop through very narrow campground arterial roads to orient the vehicle alongside the right side of the road. Therefore, we really did have to parallel park into our site.
The layout of the site was odd -- the tow vehicle and travel trailer parked alongside the road paralleling the marsh, but then you had to walk about 15 feet from the camper to the actual camp site where the fire ring and picnic table was located. The site itself was very large and provided a nice, relaxing space to erect our dog fencing to enjoy the relative solitude. Despite the large volume of campers, the noise level was low, despite literally being parked along the road.
Overall, we enjoyed the park and might come again. However, it would be wise to arrive at the park much earlier in order to avoid the parallel parking hassle. For smaller travel trailers, the back-in sites are well-positioned for an easy ingress. For larger trailers such as ours, the parallel sites may indeed be the best option.

Huge camping area and absolutely beautiful state park. Campsites themselves were clean but most were full making the campground noisy. Boardwalks are a must see and all of the workers were very nice.

Stayed here three nights. Beautiful weather and clean park. Had spotty data coverage on both Verizon and AT&T (AT&T was best) but had to break out the booster for some work stuff. Lovely place though!

While individual sites don't have lake views, an easy five minute walk takes campers from any site right onto the beach. We liked that the park has multiple beach access points so people don't crowd in one area, and we also enjoyed the variety of trails throughout the park. The cord trail through the dunes has the best views but the trails in the marsh and forest were also interesting and scenic. The nature center was informative and had plenty of volunteers to answer questions, while there were numerous interesting ranger-led events every day during our July stay. Plus the park is a very short drive from Sheboygan, with its marvelous arts destinations and plenty of shops and restaurants.
In terms of campsites, the tree cover in the campground area provides welcome shade and privacy though some sites are very sunny and exposed - pay attention when booking. We also found that sites on the three main loops tended to be short and/or very unlevel, so no great for larger rigs (with some exceptions). We ended up booking a roadside pull-off and we were happy with our choice. There is plenty of separation between sites for access and a bike-path-width safety zone keeps cars from getting too close to the parked rigs. There is still foot/bike/car traffic so privacy is not perfect. The park requires roadside rigs to park pointing northbound, and the "turnaround" area is a tight parking lot. If the lot is full, go through the camping loop to get turned around. The best part about the roadside sites is the enormous private sitting area with picnic table and fire pit east of each site. We thought the outdoor space was particularly nice in the section we were in (sites 42-44).
The shower house in the northern loop was in average condition and acceptably clean. Sites are electric only (or dry camping, pay attention when booking) but the dump station has water filling stations. The dump station is generously sized with two lanes, plus the garbage and recycling. Internet speeds were very good on AT&T, sufficient for zoom/facetime. There are about 20 OATV channels but they were a little intermittent at times.

Be careful of Google maps getting here! It sent us down “old park road” which is closed and there is no room to turn around with a camper! Stay on Highway V. It takes you straight into the park. We had a great time. Beach ,nature walks, and some cute stores and restaurants in downtown Sheboygan. Will will be back!
