They were intentionally introduced to the area in the 1950s. They are not albino, just white with a touch of grey on their heads, really, I'm not making this up. Anyway we saw just one on our first day here in the campground, suspiciously hanging out at the campground host site, hmmmmm?
The one mile road from the highway to the check in station is horrible. The half mile road from the check in station to the campground is a little better. But the worst is saved for last, the campground itself is a circular drive with deep ruts and potholes everywhere.
Once into your site all that goes away but some of the sites are at odd angles and ours was an "L" shape to make entry even more difficult. They have two pull through sites, #26 & #28 which looked fairly accessible. Also watch out for some lower hanging branches on the trees. Stay away from sites #18 - #20 if you have a big rig.
We visited this campground from 02/14/19 until 02/18/19.

Nice trails along river and thru the pine stands..looks to be an excellent park to canoe and kayak out of..a couple of tight sites,We have a 24 ft trailer..was able to maneuver without a problem..longer equipment or motor homes may not be as easy to maneuver..clean showers , restrooms and sites..friendly staff..most sites are in the shade and are separated by palmetto’s and scrub brush.

This is a small campground, but gorgeous. The sites are small too, and not very big rig friendly, but there are I think, three pull-thru sites that could hold a few bigger units. There is water and electric on site and a dump station on the way out. Getting into the dump station requires a bit of finessing, but not too bad.
We were pummeled with nuts by marauding white squirrels! Which was actually kind of fun, until we had to sweep off the slide the next day! LOL We hiked along the river and were lucky enough to spot the park's queen -- a mostly white deer. She was with a buck, and they were happily grazing.
When we stayed it was HOT! And that made for short hikes as the humidity was crazy bad. The baths and showers were older, but clean, and the ranger and camp hosts were awesome!
The cons - navigating through the campground - lots of trees to wiggle around, and if you have kids, they are likely to be bored as this is pretty much just nature and hiking campground. I would love to come back and spend a week here.....just chilling in the quiet. Oh, and at night the sky is incredible, but don't venture out without a flashlight -- it's dark!! LOL

Many sites are a stone's throw from the river. Great day-use swimming area, good fishing, spotless sites, clean (albeit old) bathrooms. They just did a prescribed burn so not all trails were open. Playground for kids and tons of white squirrels. FUN!

White squirrels are cool and the river views are nice - would have liked to canoe/lkayak but the rental system was shut down due to Covid. Campsite was very nice! Bathrooms acceptable but showing wear and tear and not air conditioned.

Small campground nestled in forest of pine trees that are home to endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Lots of deer and you will enjoy seeing a white squirrels around the campground. The road to the sites is narrow curved with lots of trees. Difficult to maneuver to set up. Sites are spaced apart with modern electrical hookups and water. Nice walking paths thru the forest and along the river. Boats are welcomed. Very quiet with great stars at night when clear.

We really liked this campground. Typical state park setup with electric and water, decent price. Lots of vegetation which provides shade and privacy.

All the prior reviews (as well as my prior stay) cover this park pretty well. With only 30 sites on a small U-shaped loop, it is a little slice of Florida paradise on the Forgotten Coast. Crawfordville is close enough to pick up essentials and there is so much to explore in every direction. I photographed nearly every site as they are all unique - use the photo of the campground map for reference. Sites 11, 24 & 26 are for walk-up (not reserveable). Sites 12 &14 are tent only.
The bathhouse was cleaned daily and the showers had lots of hot water. The rangers and volunteers were great. My T-Mobile phone was able to get a signal throughout the campground but tended to be slow averaging 6 down & 1-2 up. AT&T hotspot just now (afternoon) was 50 down and 5 up. I've been able to work & stream with no problem.

This is a beautiful park and we enjoyed bike riding on the main road but the campground is small and the spacing is cramped under beautiful oak trees. We camped on site #25 and it was large enough to accommodate our 30ft. TT. The turns in the campground were very difficult to manage due to trees and the closeness of the sites. The campsites and dump station are 1/2 mile from the entrance which is paved but the interior campground road and sites are pressed sand. We didn't have a problem leveling. Water & Electric at the site - no problems & easily reached. This site is very close to the bath house and volleyball court so there was a bit of noise with the number of kids congregated there.
There is a beautiful white deer that lives in the forest - a true site to see! We had no problems with connectivity. Hot spot connection with a booster: Verizon - Upload: 55.50 Download: 6.03 Streaming: 3.9 AT&T - Upload: 7.98 Upload: 0.41 Streaming: 2.4

We loved this park! Very quiet and serene with good hiking, but not much to do in the area. Grocery stores are about 30 minutes from the park. I would recommend making the trip to Wakulla Springs and a visit to George Griffin Pottery. We had no trouble with accessibility with our 20' TT, but some of the spots are pretty tight. We saw a couple of big rigs, so it can be done...just be sure to select your site carefully. The dump was a bit annoying...the curb blocked the flow of the hose.
