“Explore Swamps and More!”
Strolling through four ecosystems on over a mile of boardwalks through Tickfaw State Park, visitors can experience the sights and sounds of a cypress/tupelo swamp, a bottomland hardwood forest, a mixed pine/hardwood forest and the Tickfaw River. Periodically the park site serves the region by detaining floodwaters when winter and spring rains overflow the steep banks of the Tickfaw River. These periods of occasional flooding offer a unique opportunity to educate visitors on the importance of periodic flooding in the cycle of life that makes wetlands an invaluable habitat and breeding ground for wildlife and fisheries. At Tickfaw State park, you can go night hiking or listen to the swamp nightlife from the porch of your vacation cabin. Check at the Nature Center for scheduled programs. While there, view the 800-gallon aquarium stocked with fish found in the Tickfaw River. There are also displays featuring the animnals, history and culture of the area and of Louisiana. Be sure to watch the 8-minute introductory video about the history of the park area. Bicycle, stroll, or skate the interconnecting park roadways. Rent a canoe and take a fun-filled trip on this unique section of the Tickfaw River. Visitors can bring their own canoes or rent ones at the entrance station. The Water Playground offers refreshing fun for those not quite adventurous enough to explore the swamps and sloughs. A gift shop in the Nature Center (open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily) offers souvenirs with a local flavor.

Close to Baton Rouge and accessible to New Orleans this is a wonderful State Park. Everything in this park was in excellent condition - nice roads, totally level sites were spacious with picnic tables and fire rings, gorgeous trees, great trails and boardwalks where needed. Then there was a laundry, canoe rental, water park and other playground for the kiddies and camping cabins. It was half the price of the local RV parks and at least twice as nice. Great for pets and totally quiet. Their wi-fi was slow so you might do better with your own hotspot, but that is the only evenly moderately negative thing I could find. There are snakes and alligators during warm weather, but this is southern LA afterall.

We have tent camped and stayed in the cabins located here. Tent pads were raised with sand and were quiet and separated. Cabins were a good bargain as well, much like a hotel room. The water park was excellent for the kids and the nature lessons and nature center were well received.

We loved our stay here...used as base for some visits to New Orleans. Very nice fellow campers, many locals. Lots of lovely nighttime sounds. Great showers. Appreciated the "decks" off the sites. We saw the park staff and hosts sprucing up sites after each camper left. A bit of a long road in off the highway. Only gas station markets around as far as services. We only got one or two bars AT&T nonetheless it worked fine.

Tucked a bit out of the way, we drove 10+ miles to get to a decent sized town for groceries and general errands while out on the road. However, the nicely wooded sites and picnic pads with fire rings, made this RV camp site alright. The park is clean and well-managed, with a nice laundry area with two functioning washers and dryers. The bathhouse was clean, too, with a few shower stalls and toilets, all nicely maintained. Hot water is controlled but still allowed for a nice shower, just not super hot. Vending machine in laundry area did not function and the sign on the soda machine reminded me it was my loss.
We enjoyed the quiet park, the respectful neighbors, and walking around the camp area. For sightseeing we weren't too into being outdoors there because of the mosquitos so we drove on a couple of days to Baton Rouge (40 Ian miles) to explore the sights and LSU.
All in all, a nice place to stay. Lane into park a little rough in places, passing a mix of nice homes and sketchy backwoods trailers.

Very nice campground. The cost for electric and water was 37.50/ night. To be fair there are a lot of taxes both state and Parrish fees. Tent fees are less.
Amenities: hiking trails, canoeing, very reasonable laundry and close proximity to New Orleans

We stayed here 1 night in a 23’ skoolie. It was friendly quiet. There’s a boardwalk through the swamp and a nature center with live animals and some taxidermy. Postcards are only 25¢. They were sold off of stickers. They let you drive through and pick your site then return to the office to register and pay. The improved sites have electric and seemingly water but I think it was shut of for the approaching storm. The site was fairly level.

Was a long winding route (10 miles) in the dark to get here. The ground is super soft so stay on pavement. Sites are spaced pretty far apart which provides lots of privacy. Nice fire pits & grills, level sites, wood decks. Great walking trails and huge network of boardwalk thru park. Bring water filter ... water looks really bad. Had TV reception & cell service. Canoe rentals.
