The Mystery Spot

N916 Martin Lake Rd, St. Ignace, Michigan 49781 USA

“Defy the laws of physics”

In the early 1950’s, 3 surveyors named Clarence, Fred and McCray came from California to explore the Upper Peninsula.  They stumbled across an area of land where their surveying equipment didn’t seem to work properly.  For instance, no matter how many times they tried to level their tripod, through the use of a plum-bob or level, the plum-bob would always be drawn far to the east, even as the level was reading level.  As they continued their research of this land, they noticed a constant feeling of being light-headed.

Later, realizing their queasiness and problems with the surveying equipment only occurred in an area about 300 feet in diameter, they felt they had discovered a “Mystery Spot”.

Millions have visited they Mystery Spot and many return year after year to experience the unusual sensations that occur within its boundaries.  Where else can a tall person seem smaller by comparison or climb a wall and tilt precariously into the air but not fall?  Gravity tends to play a role while sitting in a chair with its back legs balanced on a beam and front legs suspended in the air.  You will without a doubt remember your visit to the Mystery Spot for years to come.

Super fun, regardless of whether you believe in the whole "vortex" thing or not. This is roadside attraction at its purest, and a great place to take kids, especially, because it always blows their minds.

Things appear to roll up hill, you can balance on a wall, and two people can exchange heights, as weird as that sounds. It really has to be experienced to appreciate how neat the place really is.

I've been here both as a kid and as an adult. It's a upper treat. Just do it!

Be sure to try out the various demonstrations; it makes the experience much more fun! The maze and mini golf were a total hoot. Found some kitschy loot in the gift store.

It's fun. I like tourist traps, lol. My usually timid six-year-old did the zip lines and wanted to go again. The short tour was amusing and fun for the kids. They laughed all through it.. Pretty cute. Really did feel like a mystery spot! ;D Employees could be a tad more enthusiastic... Especially the tour guide. But It's still fun. The only reason I give a lower rating is the cost... Kind of high... No discount for larger groups.

Price was a little high for the attraction. Glad we stopped. Interesting. Kids liked the maze the best. Mini golf was in full sun on an afternoon mid-June. Made for a long 18 holes.

An "optical illusion " you can easily find in a child's hands-on museum. Stopped here, but didn't want to pay the price so we left.

My husband insisted that we stop here... I told him about the one I had went to as a kid in California. This one was not as well done. It is truly a road side attraction and very obviously nothing more. Still, if you have kids and need a break its worth stopping.

Definitely more of a kid thing, it was cute but paid a lot for mediocre excitement. Staff was kind and courteous though!
