Have you ever had a love at first site experience in a campground? We had ours here. We generally don't make reservations until we're headed there. So from the first conversation, we liked this place! Not everyone is super receptive when you say you will be there in less than an hour (go figure). What was so special was that they said they had a prime spot for us on the lake! Upon arrival, they confirmed we had a really great site. We've always wanted to back up to a lake, so this was our first time...and last until we return!
What we loved: The staff was the best ever. Very positive and helpful. The campground is just beautiful. It's small and it really didn't look like any place was bad. Very well designed. Quiet and serene. The laundry room was convenient and adequate. WIFI at our site. There was a nice fenced in Bark Park that had a happy dog prancing in it. The drive there was just so beautiful, but there are two ways to get there. GPS did fine. We love to hike so there was fabulous hiking not too far away. We also attend church on Sundays, so we were happy there was a warm welcoming one not too far away.
Nothing they could do to make it better or negative, except being a KOA, the price is always a bit higher than other resorts. We had KOA points so it wasn't too much for us. But whatever the price, we loved it and look forward to returning.

This was our first KOA which we usually avoid because of the price compared to others in the same area. But this was a reasonably priced park in a beautiful setting with nice sites.
Pretty far from the highway, easy to find. We had a water/electric site with 50 amp right on the little lake. Level gravel site with small grass area. Nice trees but our satellite hooked up just fine.
Several activities for kids, dog walking area, showers and laundry. Easy access dump station.
Crawl over the speed bump after you check in - it's a doozy!

We needed a place to stay for the night with close access to the interstate and while we usually prefer public campgrounds - state parks, national forest service - I was having trouble finding one near this spot that I thought might be open this time of year.
I settled on this KOA since it was so close to the highway and I could have an option to just use electric hookup to keep cost down.
The staff person in the office was great, and chose a perfect spot for us, and it was discounted since we were not allowed to use water hookup here. (due to cold temps). We had plenty of water in our fresh water tank, so that was not an issue. Plus, we were near the bath/shower facility which was immaculate.
We were next to the lake and the only camper in this part of the campground. It was just us and the ducks! We even had cable hookup and the best WiFi I've ever experienced in an RV park.
We were having trouble getting a good TV picture with the cable and the maintenance guy came right away to help. Turns out it was probably our cable, but we still managed a good enough picture to watch some soccer!!
The setting was not your usual KOA - more country feel and most sites had some room between them. I imagine they do a good business in the summer with their proximity to the Shenandoah's.

The park is in a pretty area out in the country. Check-in was quick and friendly. Interior roads and sites are gravel and your vehicles will get dirty. Plus, it’s very dusty from most people driving way too fast. This park has the strangest traffic pattern to move around the campground. We were assigned a site up near the front entrance but to get to it you have to weave around the park first. Same thing when you leave. It is a long distance on narrow roads to get to the sites up on the hill. The dump station is awkwardly placed. A large RV (like ours) would need to jockey around to get in position and then back up to avoid going down a one-way street. Probably explains why they have a honey wagon. Luckily, we didn’t need to use the bathrooms but if you did and are parked in the front section, it is a long walk. Our site was a long but narrow pull thru. The sites are very close together. In fact, too close together for the fire pits. Our neighbor’s pit was right under our bedroom window. Directv was only able to pick up a handful of channels due to trees. However, the cable offered the best picture quality we’ve ever had in 7 years of travel although there are not a lot of channels . The WII FI worked pretty well until the park filled up then it was useless. Verizon was 4g 3 bars so we were able to use our hot spots. Being in the front section, we were close to the road but it quieted down at night. You can hear traffic from I-81 off in the distance. It is definitely a place for the weekend warriors! Not sure if we would return or not. Very pricey for just having water and electric and then having to pay for the honey wagon.

Upon arriving at campground I pulled to the side to allow other campers to get by me. As there isn't really a pull off place. I was maybe 6" on the grass. While I was checking in the owner came up and asked if that was my camper. I said yes, he said no parking on grass! I just had arrived and didn't know it was an issue. My wife saw a man, who at the time, she didn't know was the owner and said he walked out of office then looked at my camper and went running back inside. I then told her what transpired, she said she wondered why he ran back in. The owner showed no friendliness as you would expect from an owner. The sites are small for big rigs unless on top of hill or at entrance away from everything. The option to park your tow vehicle was in the visitor parking. Very inconvenient. I will not stay here again. If it wasn't for loosing money I would have left immediately. The fire ring was so close to the camper it was u usable. The bath houses are kept very clean. The owner needs some social skills or get out of the business he is in. The rest of the staff are very nice. He could learn from them.

My husband, two kids, and I enjoyed staying here. It is a beautiful, well maintained, peaceful campground with helpful staff. Site 8 was a nice fit for our pop up camper and a tent, and was right beside a little stream full of ducks. Our kids loved the big playground and maze. The bathhouses were clean and conveniently located. We had an easy time checking in and getting in and out.
