“Stunning Views of the Blue Ridge Mountains!”

Withsome of the most stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains South Carolina has to offer, Keowee-Toxaway State Park is truly one of South Carolina’s pretty places. The Jocassee Gorges Visitor Center exhibits and information serve as a gateway to the Jocassee Gorges. Two hiking trails in the park take visitors over a natural bridge and through the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, land once traveled by Cherokee Indians. A short, half-mile trail leads to Lake Keowee where guests can enjoy fishing for bass, bream, crappie and catfish. If Lake Keowee camping isn’t quite right for you, a three-bedroom rental cabin offers creature comforts with a scenic overlook of Lake Keowee and a private boat dock. For guests looking for a more primitive overnight stay, a short distance from Lake Keowee, camping sites with water and electrical hookups are available.

The correct name of this park is Keowee-Toxaway State Park. We have camped in this park a few times as it's close to home for us. Located in Jocassee Gorges, named in National Geographic's 50 of the World's Last Great Places : http://www.oconeesc.com/Portals/0/Documents/Council/NatGeo%2050%20of%20the%20Worlds%20Last%20Great%20Places.pdf
This SC park is the smaller and less crowded park of all the others nearby -Table Rock State Park, Devil's Fork State Park and Oconee State Park. We prefer it. There is a boat ramp for non-motorized boats only. The hike is a great moderate to strenuous 4.4 mile loop, or you can opt for the shorter 1.3 mile loop trail. Both lovely and scenic. The park is strictly pack in pack out- no trash cans. There are recycling receptacles, and a dump station. 10 RV sites and 10 tent sites. The park office is also the Jocassee Gorges Visitor Center and it is a beautiful restored historic building. Rangers are helpful and nice. Bathrooms are very nice, heated, and hot showers. We usually camp here off season and so there are only a few other campers here. Winter is a great time because you get wonderful views from the campsites that would be obscured by the tree leaves in other seasons.

Small campground with 9 rv electric and water sites. A small “winter view” glimpse of water from some of the sites. Road up to sites is a little narrow and slightly steep. I wouldn’t have thought a big class a could have made it but there was one snuggly backed into a site.
The non electric tent area has 14 sites. They all looked to have newish raised tent pads.
One clean bathroom down hill from rv sites and up hill from tent sites.
Notes:
NO TRASH DISPOSAL! You must carry all your trash out.
The lake trail says easy but it is down hill so up hill on the way back. Just be warned if you have limited mobility or tiny tots.
Two pull through sites
Restaurants we visited:
Victoria Vally Vinyards, wine tasting and lunch.)
Steak House Cafeteria, Walhalla, SC. Meat and three with the Best fried chicken! No steak here.

Great little RV and tent Campground with ten RV sites and a bunch of tent sites. Very narrow roads and steep climb in and out. Rangers are great and facilities are clean. The ranger station is only open 2 hours in the off season. Nearby is Devils Fork SP with access to the beautiful Lake Jocasse.

We arrived there at around 8pm without a reservation. The guard was very nice and friendly, it was not a problem at all for us to stay there without having a reservation. We even got to pick one out of three free spots. There are nature trails to walk on and a lake with canoe rental, fishing and swimming spots. You receive a map of the area when checking in.
Once you either put your tent up or hooked up your RV it’s not far to get to the bathhouse. There are two showers in each the men’s and ladie’s room. When we got into the bathhouse at like 9:30 it had just been cleaned and it looked very nice - we would definitely camp there again!!

I had reserved spot T1 but there's a bit of a hill to the tent pad and I'd have broken something. I moved a spot over with no problems. There was 1 other tent my first night and I didn't hear a peep. It was just me after that. There's rvs up the hill so I don't feel alone. The bathrooms are super clean!!! It's so nice and quiet!

We stayed here for 10 days over Xmas! The park is very well maintained and the bathrooms were super clean and sanitized twice daily. It was off season and there were never more than 3 rv’s and 3 tents any evening we were there except Friday! There are two good loop trails one of which goes down to the lake right from the tent area!

It takes a vehicle to get to any of the moderate to strenuous hikes. Even the Visitor's Center is a long down hill walk where most of the trails begin, We were reluctant to move our 24 footer off the 6 leveling blocks on the front wheels to drive to the trails. Since it rained both days,we were content to stay put. We had AT&T 3 bars.

The sites are large and can accommodate decent sized rigs, but the road is tight. Anything too big will have a serious issue with navigating the sites. Wouldn’t try to pull anything in here with two axles and would definitely avoid a 5th wheel. Lake is beautiful for kayaking. Hiking trails are in the park. 30 minutes away is shopping and other activities. Not a soul in the campground. Showers are hot and the bathrooms are clean and heated.
