“a fascinating hidden property”
Tucked away on three acres off High Road is a fascinating property hidden from view. A visitor walks down a wooded path and is greeted by a majestic live oak tree shading a soft lawn. This tree, a sapling in the time of Shakespeare, keeps company with something not seen in Florida, an English Tudor-style cottage, which looks as if it comes from the pages of a child’s book of fairy tales. With a steeply gabled roof, diamond-pattern leaded glass windows and stone foundation, the cottage continues its vigil over the gardens, labyrinth and tree surrounding it. The grounds are open from dawn to dusk each day and visitors are always welcome. The cottage is open for viewing many weekends though you may wish to email or check the calendar to see whether it is so beforehand. This green space is maintained by volunteer’s efforts and receives no public funding and we ask that you respect the property and its lovely oak. Please do not climb on the tree's limbs so that they may still embrace the ground in future generations. With that, we welcome you to Laura Jepsen’s home, Lichgate on High Road.
Lichgate is a hidden natural paradise. The love this woman had for wood just overwhelms you. The wooden cottage looks like a fairy's house...for a minute me and my wife though.."are we part of a fairytale"?
Very well preserved, great amount of greenery and trees that look like sculpted.
Climbing those trees is prohibited in order to keep them safe and sound.
Lovely place, pure natural magic!
A really magical spot. It's off the street so the sign is hard to spot and once you park you feel transported to a whole new place. The tree is beautiful. I wish we could have seen the inside of the cottage but it was still beautiful walking the gardens and grounds.
Enjoyed this stop. This was easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it. It is in the middle of an urban area.
You walk into a beautiful meadow of sorts with the giant tree. We explored the grounds, walked the paths, admires the trees and plants, and walk the labyrinth. The cottage was closed and locked so we were not able to explore inside. The grounds were peaceful and easy to image a world of fairies.
