“quiet, shady, pet-friendly, and family-oriented campground”
The story of Terre Haute Campground actually began about 5 years ago less than 90 minutes away, when the owners of Camp Lakewood Campground, located in Effingham Illinois set out to expand their hearts to a new location. They discovered a gem, not far from home, formerly known as Terre Haute KOA Journey.

Confirmed by 6 users | Last reported on October 15, 2023We just spent a night here as we passed through from NJ to WY and we had the best time! Ruth came by and delivered cookies to us and couldn't be more hospitable. The grounds are not huge but they have everything- pool, fully stocked store, restaurant, 24 flavors of ice cream, laundry and two adorable donkeys that our kids were in love with (camp store sells food). We loved it here and would definitely go back!
Stayed one night before Thanksgiving, was quiet, friendly people running the place. Gravel was level and full hookups. They have electric heaters on their water hook ups.
Average KOA. Stayed 2 nights, and it stormed most of the time. Our site puddled quite a bit. Dog park was small and somewhat muddy. Lots of trees so no satellite reception - tried portable dish as well but to no avail. Cable was snowy - typical for an older park. Site was level. Water pressure and WiFi were average. Staff was friendly and helpful. The donkeys were cute. Roads were navigable for our 38' rig plus Jeep in tow. Our Garmin 760 got us there just fine.
Nice place. Clean. Bathhouse well kept. Staff friendly. Restaurant on site. Nice pool and lots of activities for kids.

This was a typical KOA, lots of sites in neat rows. It is nicely wooded which helps the looks and feel quite a bit. We found it to be a bit pricey ($50 including tax and KOA discount, for the cheapest pull-through site). Check-in was fast and friendly, and our site was level. We had good Verizon and AT&T signal, but Verizon was extremely slow (AT&T was fine). We were only here for two nights and it was below freezing the whole time so we didn't get out to see much of the campground. We'd stay again for a night or two while passing through.

Our second time staying at this KOA. We usually aren’t fans of KOA, but we love this one! Huge fenced in dog park, lots of activities/things to do, donkeys to feed and pet. Level spots. Clean. Cable and WiFi. Cookies and a store in the main office and a nice restaurant to eat in so you don’t have to unhook the toad. Staff is friendly. Well worth the price. Just an over night for us, but we love staying here and will always make it a stop on our way back to Ohio.

One of the better KOAs I've stayed at, I'll give them that. They had a nice dog park. An interesting thing with donkeys in a corral. A jumping pillow, giant chess set, play ground, pool, cafe that sells ice cream as well as food.
The main downside is that the layout for the pull through sites staggers each site so they pull in opposite directions... meaning your fire ring and picnic table are literally inches from your neighbor. Nothing says camping like being a few feet from strangers and eye to eye a whole evening. Of course its great for people camping together, just not ideal if you want to be able to have a quiet evening and a little privacy. I've camped a lot... seems like the only reason a park would do this is to share power\water poles. I've never stayed at a place that did this before. I'm only trying to highlight the major flaw in this park... not whine.
The pool seemed nice but we were traveling and left before it opened up. The dump station was in a convenient spot for us... but literally feet away from campers, and a tee-pee. I cannot imagine it smells great for them.

This park is actually pretty quiet given its proximity to the highway. It is a bit of a scenic tour of frontage roads winding around roundabouts to get here. The KOA has a great cafe that does breakfast and dinner each day with a pretty decent menu and prices. As noted by others, the sites are alternating so you will be sharing your grass area with your neighbor. The cell service is deceptive, while speed tests look great both Verizon and AT&T are dropping packets at about 30% making the internet useless for a teleworker.

Super shady, lots of amenities, lots of activities, great for families with kids.
Great cell phone reception, free WI-Fi, showers, pool, laundry, camp store, game room, and more.
Hard to find - Hwy 46 has been rerouted, take care to update maps...

We stayed in Terre Haute for a week for work. This campground is well located, easy to get in and out of, well kept, the sites spacious and the staff friendly and helpful. If we come this way for work again we'll stay here.
