“with a relaxed, informal, unpretentious "at home" feel”
A bistro, sometimes spelled bistrot, was, in its original 19th-century French incarnation, a small restaurant serving moderately priced simple meals (we might say "comfort foods") in a modest setting. Bistros likely developed out of the kitchens of Parisian inns where tenants paid for both room and board. Landlords could supplement their income by opening their kitchen to the paying public, for the comfort of travelers and locals, alike. Bistros have always had a relaxed, informal, unpretentious, "at home" feel. At Elm Street Bistro we strive to follow in this original tradition, with an American twist, of course.
