“A miniature Niagara Falls”
Charleston Falls Preserve is the most visited Park District property in Miami County with over 216 acres of prairie and forests. This beautiful park is the perfect place to hike and view wildlife. Uncommon plants such as wild columbine, walking fern, purple cliff break and rock honeysuckle grace the limestone faces of the surrounding gorge. The most unusual feature of this preserve is the unique waterfall. The Falls can rightly be called a “Miniature Niagara” because its rock strata is the same as Niagara Falls. Originating from small underground springs several miles to the east, the stream creating the falls plummets 37 feet then continues its meandering journey to the Great Miami River. Over three miles of trails pass through various habitats such as Redbud Valley and the Thorny Badlands, offering explosions of color and varieties of scenic wonder. Help protect this unique natural site by using the trials provided and following the rules of the Preserve.
This place was beautiful. I wanted to make sure I saw certain things and was on a time schedule, so if that is what you want to do, make sure to print out a map before you go. They do have trail signs and maps throughout the park, but there are parts that aren't labeled the greatest. This is a great place to go though and I highly recommend it. There is a parking lot and bathroom also.
One of our new favorite places to stop when going through Ohio. Beautiful trails, perfect for stretching legs or walking a dog during a long drive. Views of the falls from above or below is great.
This beautiful nature preserve has everything from forest to meadows to waterfalls. You can take a stroll through the whole place in a couple of hours. It's pet friendly and our English Bulldog had no trouble traversing the trails. There is a restroom and a few picnic tables so you can pack a lunch for a really lovely day outdoors.
A good hiking slot for the entire family! The teens can head off for the more challenging trails, the young ones will enjoy the storybook trail (bring your smartphone with QR reader to hear the birdcalls), and grandma will enjoy the handicapped-
accessible falls and goldenrod hexagon trails. The falls are nice and the trails to them well-shaded.
