“175-acre state park”

Twin Lakes State Park is a 175-acre state park in Houghton County, Michigan. It is located in the Elm River Township, Michigan along M-26. Twin Lakes State Park makes a good base camp for many area attractions. Travel north to Historic Fort Wilkins where the lives of the soldiers and their families during the mining boom of the 1840's are re-enacted. Travel south and see how the first miners lived at the restored mining community at Victoria or enjoy a hike on one of the trails in the Porcupine Mountains. Other area attractions include the copper mines near Hancock and Delaware and the historic and mineralogical museums in the area. There is also a newly created Keweenaw National Historic Park in Calumet.

This place was really nice with huge sites including many lakeside sites but be warned...some sites are right next to the highway.

Our site was by the lake and I didn't really hear much.

You can tie boats up to the site. We were able to launch our kayak from our site.

Bathrooms and showers were fine. Had a nice beach and a boat launch.

Also had a guy delivering firewood, very cool. Park staff was awesome.

You need to have a state recreation pass as well It was an added $9.

We're UP residents, but this was our first time to Twin Lakes. We came for the week based on the ATT tower location so we could work from the camper mon-thu but still enjoy the area.

Work review: For cell service, I had 75% signal on my Winegard hotspot using ATT. We ran speed tests and consistently got over 30mb/s with low ping times! With our Verizon phones we got about 2 bars and could get speed tests of 5-8mbit.

Park review: Although it's a small loop and near the highway, the highway noise isn't too bad, but it is there. The sites are nice sized. We fit our 27ft TT, F150, Jeep and small fishing boat on the site without feeling cramped. We also moved sites a few times due to booking just a couple weeks out and didn't have a problem at any of the sites. We had 5 days on site 61 (waterfront), we also stayed at sites, 6, 7, and 41 for 1 (weekend) night each. The lakes are very nice. They're pretty and a great for size for boating, jet skis, fishing, tubing, etc. There's plenty of shoreline spots to leave your boat tied up in the water. There's also a designated trailer parking area if you want to leave your empty trailer near the boat launch. We brought our fishing boat and explored both lakes (there's a narrow, but navigable channel that goes between them). The day use area was never busy and large and nice as well. The location is great, as it's a quick drive to the porkies or the keweenaw. Across the highway is access to ATV trails that we didn't use, and a 1.5/2mile CC skiing/hiking loop in a older maple forest. I didn't expect that park to be as nice as it was. We'll definitely be back since it's a pretty site and has a great ability to connect for those of us remote workers that like to RV more often than we have vacation days.

Easy to get to and easy to get in, We chose Twin Lakes State Park because it was available for a last minute booking and good cell service was reported. (I’m working from the road). The cell tower is right across the road.

The park is small, with the campground sandwiched between a calm lake and the road way (which at times can be noisy depending on the traffic). There’s a mix of sun and shade under a tall canopy of deciduous trees. The sites are wide open to each other and the lake; however, lightly buffered from M-26.

The sites appear to have been gravel pads at some point but, like the campground road’s asphalt, it’s now mostly gone. That said, what remains in the dirt is fairly level.

Firewood is $5.00/bundle ands had a lot of moisture, making it difficult to get a good flame. (Pick up wood on your way in.) We like the Michigan State Park fire ring design. The pit is elevated allowing good airflow. The double walls let’s you use the outside ring as a foot rest. Nice!
