“Once known as the wildest & wickedest”
The Bird Cage' is a national tourist attraction that is open to the public year-round from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily in Tombstone, Arizona. The place has a reputation of being Haunted. Who knows, those poor souls that were murdered inside, may be ghosts still playing poker with a lady on their laps. Legend has it that 26 people were killed in The Bird Cage during it reputed eight years as one of the wildest and meanest places in Tombstone, Arizona. Over a Hundred and Twenty bullet holes remain in the building . The ladies of the night, plied their trade in cribs suspended from the ceiling in the building. There are 14 cribs which line the sides of the gambling hall in the Bird Cage Theatre, 7 on each side of the room. The ladies would close the drapes to entertain their clients.
For people interested in history, this is a must stop. Full of stories, information and historical artifacts. This is one of the only original remaining buildings from Tombstone. I encourage everyone to stop in and take a look around. I would plan 1-2 hours, depending upon your interest. If you are a real history buff and really like to take your time in museums, plan longer.
I love that everything in the building is original even down to the old wallpaper, but I wish they had the money to restore the building and it's contents. I fear that it'll disappear one day.
