Historic Treasure
Topeka isn’t the largest city in Kansas, so it can come as a surprise to some that it is, in fact, the state capitol. If you’re looking to take in some culture while visiting, this is a great stop. Like most state capitols, it’s filled with rich detail and symbolism. Fun fact: the building’s dome is taller than the US Capitol building’s, and it’s one of the few that still allows visitors to visit the top.
The Kansas State Capitol is considered the state's greatest architectural treasure. Visitors can see spectacular spaces including Representative Hall, the Senate Chamber, State Library, Old Supreme Court, and the John Steuart Curry murals. A restoration was completed in January 2014, and the building was restored to its 1917 appearance. Historic tours are offered Monday – Friday.
Beautiful building inside and out!
We didn't have enough time to go through it. It was a nice capital building from the outside.
