“The longest Arch of all Arches”
Landscape Arch is the longest of the many natural rock arches located in the Arches National Park in Utah, USA. The arch is among many in the area known as Devil's Garden in the north area of the park. It was named by Frank Beckwith, leader of the Arches National Monument Scientific Expedition, who explored the area in the winter of 1933–1934, and can be reached by short walk/hike of about 1.5 miles along a maintained trail. The Natural Arch and Bridge Society (NABS) considers the Landscape Arch to be the longest natural arch in the world, having measured the span in 2004 at 290.1 ± 0.8 feet , which is slightly longer than a measurement made by the Society in 2006 of Kolob Arch in Zion National Park. Since 1991, three slabs of sandstone measuring 30, 47, and 70 feet (9.1, 14, and 21 m) long have fallen from the thinnest section of Landscape Arch,[5] prompting the Park Service to close the trail that once passed beneath it.
Landscape arch is great! Definitely worth the hike. It's a moderate hike that has a couple arches along the way. It's only 0.8 miles to Landscape Arch which with the other two arch stops, took about an hour to get to. Absolutely stunning.
Landscape Arch is the second longest sandstone arch in the world. It's an easy hike along a paved trail to reach the arch. Stop here or keep on hiking the 7-mile primitive trail loop to see many other arches. If you decide on the shorter version, it's possible to include Landscape with several other must-see arches on a day of touring Arches National Park. I show you how.
