“One of the Bayous' Best!”
The park covers over 6,400 acres of rolling hills and water in South Central Louisiana. The cool, clear waters of Lake Chicot have yielded record freshwater catches of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and red-ear sunfish. Fishermen will enjoy the convenient boathouse, three boat launches and boat rental facilities. An extensive hiking/backpacking trail completely encircles Lake Chicot and includes several primitive campsites along the way. The hiking trails allow visitors to experience and enjoy the park's natural landscape, its bottomland hardwood forest and the lake itself. For visitors who enjoy a quicker pace, much of the trail is geared toward mountain bikers, and all cyclists are welcome to ride the roadways throughout the park. The South Landing includes cabins, a group camp, a lodge, picnic areas and playgrounds, a water playground, a boat launch, a fishing pier and a dock with rental boats. A scenic road links the South Landing with the North Landing. The North Landing features campsites, a playground, a boat launch, a dock, a 400 ft. fishing pier and a primitive group-camping area. The Conservation Lodge is located in this area. The East Landing is accessible from LA 106. It is less developed than the other two areas. It includes a boat launch, a dock, a meeting room and a barbeque pavilion, which makes this area ideal for day visitors. The Louisiana State Arboretum, now located within Chicot State Park, is home to a magnificent mature beech-magnolia forest and features an outdoor classroom and several miles of nature trails with labeled plant life native to Louisiana.

If you'd like to stay in what appears to be an abandoned WWII army base, this is your spot. This is not what we were expecting. Don't waste your time.

Boy, we did NOT do our homework!
You would think as many times as we have used and contributed to Campendium.com we would have known to look here first. The previous review summed up the general idea of this State Park(?). The only thing, and I mean ONLY, is the area itself. Beautiful cypress groves in and around the lake, wildlife and hiking/biking trails.
Now the rest....
To begin with, we were in the North Landing Campground. 5 miles from the main entrance. OK. We found upon arrival that 95% of the sites are VERY un-level, ours included. We called and moved to one that was much better only to turn off the engine and hear the dumpsite pumping station a mild stones throw away. We searched for another site only to find out it had an overlapping reservation. We decided to just stay put.
The literature given at the gate has a note not to call 911 when the power goes out. No biggie, we've been in the sticks before. On day 3 we had notched 16 power outages. I got my meter and went to the poll. The voltage was high, higher than when I checked after pulling in. I ended up getting my extra cable and hooking up to the neighboring post.
The sites here are in a steep decline not only in elevation but overall repair. We arrived here to quite a few families camping (Spring Break time) but it seems little use happens any other times. The pads are black top but very, very worn out and decaying. I think the fact that we only have one camp-host for the entire 50ish sites in this campground. He is a totally different story... Seemed to be a nice gentlemen...with his 6...yes 6 ferrel cats hanging around his rig. One of which was nice enough to come down to our site and mark his territory on my brand new tires! My wife went to do laundry and the shower house smelled of cat spray....nice.
I'm going to stop....we won't be back, you shouldn't come and Louisiana needs to pony up some cash and fix this place. I could be a really nice park....just not now.

We camped here July 4th weekend. The campsites are a bit challenging to get into with a longer camper but we managed. The heat was killer and the only cooling off spot for children was a splash pad even though the website states there is a pool there is not one at the park. On the plus side there was a lot of wildlife everywhere you look from deer to turtles and even spotted a wild hog. The arboretum was another pleasant cooling off spot with several educational classes on plants and wildlife during the weekend. There is also numerous hiking trails I would love to explore , only in cooler months. Over all I believe this park would be a plus in the fall or spring for hiking, fishing and boating.

I came on a Tuesday and called ahead to confirm availability. No problem I was told unless I plan to stay through the weekend when it was fully booked. Only one night for me so no problem. Staff are courteous and well-informed, I asked and got for a spot near the showers which are some of the best that I have seen and include two toilets and sink. Campsite well organized, good power and water hook ups. Pretty much had the place to myself, although there were a few folks staying near the entrance. A bit warm and buggy for late October, but I ran the AC till the temp was reasonable and had bug screens up so no problem. Highly recommend this place. Price is 50% off for 63 and over.

Chicot State Park is wonderful and well maintained. We had a wonderful weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. Take the time to drive around to the East Landing in the evening before sunset. It has one of the prettiest views of Chicot Lake. Also drive down to the South Fishing Pier below the South Campground. It has a long pier that goes out into the lake. My son spent a lot of time at the splash pad.
Be sure to visit the free La. State Arboretum onsite. It has a great visitor center with some fantastic exhibits and nice hiking trails.
Stayed in campsite #84. It has a nice deck with picnic table. BBQ grill and fire pit are on the other side of the RV spot. Even though it is in the front, it is actually quite secluded with woods all around. Nearest neighbor was at least 40-50 ft. Away. My son could easily walk or ride his bike to the splash pad. Both AT&T and Verizon had poor signal (1 bar each). Was able to connect to the free park Wi-Fi. It was slow, but I could send text messages and make the occasional phone call. Wasn't a big deal, because I came here to camp and get unplugged. We camped at Chicot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a heckuva state park, and we only saw a small part of it. Many of the sites are not level and not long enough for more than a van. Our site had the water and electricity hookups on opposite sides, somewhat awkward. But the TREES! Huge and everywhere. The Louisiana State Arboretum is fairly new, has good exhibits, and has interpretive trails through those TREES. There’s a kids area with splashpad near the campground, and a lake. You could spend several days here without seeing it all, and we intend to. On our next visit we might rent one of the cabins. They are the size of small houses, have screened decks, are air-conditioned, and some are on stilts over the water. Good show, Louisiana!

We were in side 84. It was secluded and beautiful. We could see the splash pad and the kids trail and we’re close to the bathroom.
The arboretum we very nice.
The horseflies were SO bad that we drove to Walmart the first night and purchased $100 worth of bug Deterrent… nothing worked.
The splash pad was broken and that was a bummer because it was one of the reasons why we picked this park.
Site was level
No internet (no problem)
