“you thought it was only a dream...”
The OZ museum was built with a major grant from the State of Kansas and the generosity of the people of this small community, who also provided thousands of hours of volunteer time. The museum houses more than just memorabilia from the famous 1939 MGM musical starring Judy Garland! It encompasses earlier silent films, one of which starred none other than Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy fame) as the Tin Man as well as "The Wiz" starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
It's a cool place. Learned a lot more about the author and behind the scenes of the movie
Really neat to stop and see! The winery is very good too!
The photo on this site doesn't give it justice. It's such a unique and fairly quick stop to make. But a really fun stop nonetheless.
Wamego really is a one horse town, but the Oz museum was neat. It plays the movie and contains all of the books and memorabilia from the books and movie. Also, a few stores down is Toto's Taco's and The Oz Winery. The winery is pretty awesome!
Wamego has a really great 4th of July celebration including a fair and a parade. The Oz Museum puts on an annual event called Oztoberfest -- though it is the last weekend of September in 2013.
Cute stop. The stuff is mostly replica but it was sweet. They offer military and student discounts.
Great place to stop on road trip. Kids enjoyed!
A nice stop to break up a road trip. A fun walk down memory lane. The kids enjoyed the museum and gift shop.
Very cool, but a lot to try to look at in a small place. Also a very cute little town (which you don't find a lot of along I70 in Kansas). Worth the stop - especially if you're into pressed pennies.
Had a fun time walking through the museum, and learned a ton about the books and film. Stopped by the Oz Winery down the street afterwards for a tasting. A great afternoon!
