The OZ museum was built with a major grant from the State of Kansas and the generosity of the people of this small community, who also provided thousands of hours of volunteer time. The museum houses more than just memorabilia from the famous 1939 MGM musical starring Judy Garland! It encompasses earlier silent films, one of which starred none other than Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy fame) as the Tin Man as well as "The Wiz" starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
“you thought it was only a dream...”
It's a cool place. Learned a lot more about the author and behind the scenes of the movie
Really neat to stop and see! The winery is very good too!
The photo on this site doesn't give it justice. It's such a unique and fairly quick stop to make. But a really fun stop nonetheless.
Wamego really is a one horse town, but the Oz museum was neat. It plays the movie and contains all of the books and memorabilia from the books and movie. Also, a few stores down is Toto's Taco's and The Oz Winery. The winery is pretty awesome!
Wamego has a really great 4th of July celebration including a fair and a parade. The Oz Museum puts on an annual event called Oztoberfest -- though it is the last weekend of September in 2013.
Fun excursion about 15 minutes off the main highway. Worth the stop for diehard fans of Oz! The museum houses 6,000 artifacts and memorabilia from the film.
Very cool place to stop I would recommend. It's like 15 mins off the highway so not very far. The only thing that I would change was how expensive the merchandise was. But other than that is was great. Todos tacos was great and very cute.
A good place to visit with family. The gift shop was over priced but it had some interesting stuff.
This place is super cute! We found it on our (long) drive back to Indiana from Colorado. We decided to stop at any road side attractions. The entire town has a great small-town feel to it and everyone was friendly! The museum has a lot of great memorabilia. I will visit again if I am ever in the area!
Loved, loved, loved this place!!!! All the artifacts inside are amazing and informative. Plus the gift shop rocks!!! Be sure to visit the OZ Winery and have some Squished Witch!!
