“An emerging, tasteful restaurant”
Steven Brand began his life in the culinary world at a young age as a busboy at The Boston Yacht Club, it was not a great fit, but management liked him so they offered him a job in the kitchen for the next summer, a place they saw him better suited. Steven loved the culture of the kitchen, which led him to a few more summer jobs and eventually culinary school. While earning his A.S. in Culinary Arts and B.S. in business at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Steven worked for Empire Restaurant. He was there for 2 1/2 years, during the time when the restaurant won the prestigious award of top 10 best new chefs from Food & Wine Magazine. Steven was able to travel around Europe while in school, and had an apprenticeship in Brussels for four months. He also studied in Germany for eight weeks where he earned a German wine sommelier certificate. Eventually Steven worked at XO Cafe under Rachel Klein in Providence, who encouraged him to move to New York City.
