“dedicated to all veterans”

The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden, created by Vietnam veteran and sculpture artist, Dennis Smith, was dedicated as a war memorial, but the metal sculptures evoke a powerful sense of striving for peace. Groupings with names such as, The Refugees, The Why Group, Those Left Behind, and Coming Home, are arranged within walking distance of each other with the stark landscape and lovely distant view of Mount Shasta as a backdrop. Fifty-eight thousand pines, a living memorial to the 58,000 American dead in Vietnam, also grace the site. Although it is dedicated to veterans of all conflicts, the site has been developed as a “park for everyone”.Sitting areas are provided for quiet meditation and contemplation. The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden rests upon the northwestern slope of Mt Shasta, 13 miles north of the City of Weed, on Hwy 97 in Siskiyou County, California. It is situated on 136 acres of land provided by the USDA Forest Service, which were replanted with tens of thousands of trees by countless volunteers. The trees are living tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in war. The sculpture garden, a place for reflection & remembrance, healing & reconciliation. The LMSG pays homage to all honorable veterans, in conflict and in peace. The LMSG was founded by a group of veterans in 1988. Today, the Garden is proudly sponsored & maintained by the Kiwanis Club of Weed/Lake Shastina.

Very nice tribute to the men and women who have served. Some whimsical and some very moving. Well worth the trip off the beaten path for this.

The address was off but if you follow the signs listed in that area you will find it. You have to drive or walk down a narrow drive to get to the sculptures. Once you find them you won’t be disappointed. This is a very unique place to visit. There were a few picnic benches so we were able to eat while we were there. Downside there was no bathrooms or porta potty’s on site. Also no trash cans.

Beautiful walk and setting. However Roadtrippers is off on the actual spot. It's a few miles further down on the right from the point it gives you. Worth the stop!!

This is a very worthwhile stop. The artist (Dennis Smith) has done an AMAZING job of capturing emotions in his work. It is obvious his work resonates with the visitors via tokens and mementos. Unfortunately I don't think many have taken the time to take in this road side treasure. Wish they had a donation bucket I could have made a contribution into.
