“learn the history of the water”
The Palm Beach Maritime Museum (PBMM) is a non-profit organization funded through public and private grants as well as a variety of charitable contributions that include real estate, personal property, such as yachts, vehicles, and private and public corporate stock. PBMM is a 501(c)(3) educational organization with a school exemption, which focuses on maritime history and the marine environment. The PBMM evolved from its precursor, the Ocean Learning Institute which was founded by John C. Grant in 1974. The name change in 1992 reflects the expanded purpose of the organization, the establishment of a maritime museum with a comprehensive presentation of maritime history and technology focusing on the Straits of Florida and the Caribbean Basin. The main mission of our museum is to work in close coordination with museum sponsored formal education programs providing enhancement of those programs with interactive exhibits, significant artifacts, displays and simulation. Equally important is providing rich and rewarding educational experiences for the general public.
