“Eerie abandoned theme park”

This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner.

Joyland Amusement Park is a former amusement park in Wichita, Kansas. It was in continuous operation for 55 years, from June 12, 1949, to 2004. The park was once the largest theme park in central Kansas and featured a wooden roller coaster. This is now abandoned and is a great place to visit, especially if you want to take some truly one of a kind photos.

Today the site is abandoned, and most buildings and rides have been vandalized. An organization called Restore Hope was started in the hope of rebuilding the park. Since its closing in 2004, it has been subjected to numerous incidents of vandalism and looting. Nearly every building is covered with graffiti, and the vintage sign from the top of the roller coaster has been stolen. The administration offices have also been destroyed. Park owner Margaret Nelson was quoted as saying "We're sick. Our hearts are just sick. It's not easy, not easy."

Allegedly, "in 2004, a girl fell from the Ferris wheel when her seat’s safety bar became unattached and she reached forward to grab it. Of course, if movies and TV shows featuring abandoned amusement parks have taught us anything, I think we all know that the girl didn’t survive the fall, that the company bought off her parents to cover up the accident, and that her restless spirit haunts the grounds –owing, in part, to the park’s ultimate closure."

The park is currently on private property, so the only way you're going to get the chance to visit is to donate, support, and share the Joyland Restoration Project. They are currently seeing sponsors, volunteers, and donations, so if you want to revisit your favorite childhood place, and support a pretty awesome project throw a couple of bucks there way, and help!

I'm from WV but, I have family in Wichita. We would go to Joyland for our family reunions every year from the time I was born till till it closed. And I remember that creepy ass clown. His name was Louie. Still gives me the willies. But Roller Coaster is still one of my favorite Out-and-Backs still to this day.

they also featured a weird haunted house type ride called the wacky shack. Not that spectacular of a ride, but I never saw anything like it anywhere else.

The last paragraph is correct althought she didn't die, she broke both her legs and it really had nothing to do with the park closing, trust me I live in Wichita and have done hours and hours of research on this place
