“The third largest tree in the world”

The third largest tree in the world. Named in 1867 after Ulysses S. Grant. It's also known as the "Nation's Christmas Tree." President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared the tree a National Shrine -- a memorial to those who died in war -- and it's the only living object to be so declared. Recent estimates suggest the General Grant tree is cloase to 1,650 years old. Height above base: 267.4 ft. Circumference at ground: 107.6 ft.

This small walk to see the General Grant Tree is beautiful. However, I would suggest taking the North Loop trail located to the east of this entrance. It is about an hour long hike, and not many people go on it, but it is well worth it.

Amazing to see a tree this large. Loop is an easy walk.
