“Historic, Possibly Haunted Tunnel”
If you're feeling frisky and especially daring, hike over to the Moonville tunnel--the site of many ghostly activities. If the tunnel in its literal manifestation is not enough to give you the willies, the ghost stories and folk lore that revolves around the tunnel is sure to do that. Previously a passing through of the old Marietta Cincinnati railroad, the tunnel became infamous for its foreboding nature. To put it in perspective, it would be akin to driving down a pitch black highway and not seeing anyone or anything at all for miles, and suddenly coming upon a structure in all that nothingness. The site of many tragic accidents and suicides, the ghosts of these victims are still said to roam around, wondering why the hell the train never shows up. If you're lucky, you may spot an unknown woman crushed by a train, and if you're even luckier, you'll spot the apparition of the mangled brakeman. Regardless, bring a friend because you are likely to be unnerved--skeptic or not.
The Road To Moonville.....we drove a regular car along a twisty gravel road through the hills until we found the orange railing that you're not supposed to cross. Then, you walk down a path, through a creek, and up a hill. The trusses are still there but you need to keep going....and then, there it is :)
ENTER IF YOU DARE
Moonville Tunnel was a right of passage for many of us who grew up in Southern Ohio, and is one of the most frightening places I've ever been. If you have the nerve, do go at midnight on a cool weekday night. Walk to the middle, and turn off your flashlight (if it's still lit, as they tend to blink out on their own) and count to thirty.
