“An eco-friendly experience where history and romance collide beautifully and you half expect a fairy to wander out and greet you.”
Everyone has a dream. José Paronella's dream became a reality back in the 1930s when he built his castle, a picnic area by Mena Creek Fall, tennis courts, bridges and a tunnel, and wrapped it up in an amazing range of 7,500 tropical plants and trees on five hectares of verdant rainforest. He even harnessed the waterfall for his electricity. Today, visitors to the park marvel at the achievements of one man. Admission to Paronella Park is valid for 24 months and covers two tours. There is a 45 minute guided walk that explains the extraordinary story of José and takes you through the highlights of the park, and there's the Darkness Falls Tour where the castles and waterfall are flood-lit at night, which excites even the most amateur of photographers. Admission also includes the souvenir guidebook, fish food, umbrellas, access to the online photo gallery, as well as a site for one night in the adjacent van park. Paronella Park has received multiple Queensland tourism awards, is State and National Heritage listed and is a National Trust listed property. It is privately owned and operated and Eco accredited.
We read reviews yet remained a little unconvinced. How wrong! We stayed with our van for the night which was perfect (book early if you want to be on site). Spent the afternoon wandering around on the day tour, then headed back for the night tour. 2 beautiful but different experiences. Our 7 and 4 year loved it as much we did and even made us go exploring again in the morning before we headed off on our travels. So different to anything else you’ll see on the east coast and definitely recommend stopping off
