“Follow the “Dreaming Trail” into Mount Chambers Gorge where you will be able to see a gallery of ancient rock engravings.”

Mount Chambers and the beautiful Mount Chambers Gorge are about 60 km north-east of Blinman in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. Although on private land, they are a tourist attraction near to the road between Blinman and Balcanoona, Gammon Ranges National Park. They are part of the Wearing Hills.

Mount Chambers Gorge winds through the Wearing Hills toward Lake Frome. There is usually water in the bed of the creek, although less in recent years than formerly; while it is brackish it can be used by campers (given appropriate treatment). The upper part of the Gorge is accessible to most vehicles while the lower parts are now closed to all but foot traffic and can no longer be accessed by four-wheel-drive. There is signage at the car park indicating the closure of the lower gorge to vehicle traffic.

Chambers Gorge is one of the most spectacular and beautiful gorges in the Flinders Ranges and South Australia. Both the Gorge and Mount Chambers, at 409 metres, were discovered by Captain Edward C. Frome and his party in 1843. They were first named by John McDouall Stuart in 1855 when surveying pastoral leases for the Chambers Brothers.

Many of the leases around Chambers Gorge were held by John Chambers until 1863 when he sold them to Philip Levi.
