Waddamana Power Station Museum

The Waddamana Power Station, located almost in the geographical centre of Tasmania, is now a fascinating hydro-electric museum. It is a tribute to the beginning of integrated hydro-electric development in Tasmania, featuring an array of machinery, memorabilia, photographs and artefacts. In 1916 electricity generated by harnessing the power of falling water "hydro-electricity", first came to Hobart from Waddamana Power Station. The museum provides visitors with a sense of what life in the central highlands was like back in the early 1900s. Exhibits include an extensive photographic display, original machinery, memorabilia and artefacts from the power station and the people. Tours can be booked for groups of ten people or more. Accommodation is available at the Waddamana Field Study Centre, which is the original village built to accommodate workers who constructed Waddamana. Open daily 10am to 4pm (closed Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day).
