“Drink a cocktail with a preserved human toe in it”
Established in 1973, the Sourtoe Cocktail has become a Dawson City tradition. The original rules were that the toe must be placed in a beer glass full of champagne, and that the toe must touch the drinker's lips during the consumtion of the alcohol before he or she can claim to be a true Sourtoer. The rules have changed in the past twenty-seven years. The Sourtoe can be had with any drink now (even ones that aren't alcoholic), but one rule remains the same. The drinker's lips must touch the toe. " You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow-- But the lips have gotta touch the toe." The Sourtoes are actual human toes that have been dehydrated and preserved in salt. Swallowing one is not suggested. In fact, swallowing the toe comes with a $500 fine. The last toe was swallowed by a troublemaker known only as "Josh from New Orleans".. The club still has a toe or two left, but currently has a call out for people who'd like to donate toes of their own for the drink. Got frostbite? Need an amputation? Put that dead digit to use!
Went there on a tour and only two of us did it - both of us women! The guys were too chicken. Fun ceremony. Dawson is a neat little town. No paved roads and wood sidewalks. Great time!
.
OMG! I am actually considering this! I want that certificate! Will be traveling, beginning next week, to Alaska from Seattle. This area is one of our stops. Will post if I actually do it!
Ugh, excuse me while I go faint somewhere...Far, far away from the petrified, severed digit...I'll leave this one to the boys, if we ever visit Dawson City.
I can get you a toe. Dude, you don't want to know, but believe me, there are ways. I can get you a toe by this afternoon.
Did the sour toe last summer. The ceremony is a kick and you get a certificate to prove it. Definitely worth doing. Dawson City and the drive over the Top of the World highway and Chiicken Alaska are a super experience .
They actually have several toes, Omega! They're just making sure they're well stocked..
The last toe, that is.
Someone recently swallowed the toe. They are currently looking for a replacement.
This is sick and he is mentally ill. This is little-more than cannibalism, and I thought that was a crime.
