The Guadalajara Zoo is nestled in the Huentitán canyon, and is considered an integrator of a great combination of the Planetarium Severo Diaz, Huentitán Natural Park and the Magic Forest amusement park. It was inaugurated on March 11, 1988 by Mexican President Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado accompanied Mr. Alvarez del Castillo. On the 25th of that month, it opened its doors to the public, and now the Guadalajara zoo has over a decade of serving the Guadalajara and national groups, as well as tourists from other parts of the world. It is considered one of the few zoos in the country that is self-financing. It has 50 developed hectares which has respected the topography and existing trees and flora. This is seen in the gap spanning 70 meters from the front door to the end point of the park. Besides its custody 280 acres of ecological reserve in beautiful Canyon Huentitán.
