“Picturesque lake with incredible bird life.”
3 kilometers north of Cheviot, there is a picturesque picnic and recreational area called St Anne's Lagoon.
It’s a nature reserve that used to provide Māori settlements around the area with eel and is now a wild bird sanctuary. It is particularly interesting at dusk to watch and listen to the different birdlife homing in and settling on the water.
This area was originally set out and planted with exotic trees at the beginning of 1900’s.
