Confirmed by 6 users | Last reported on December 27, 2023What a cool place! It’s like being at the beach with giant sand dunes...and no water! We didn’t stay long but were pleasantly surprised that the sand wasn’t hot in mid-July for the dogs. We went right after they opened and it was great!
Ended up here on accident on a long road trip. The campsite I'd planned to use in Guadalupe Mountains Nat'l Park was full. The campsite is well maintained and includes showers which was incredibly welcome after such a long camping trip.
The visitor's center has snow discs you can rent to go sliding down the dunes. Gives you an opportunity to let out your inner child! There's also a great deal of wildlife tracks out in the dunes if you look for them with birds, raccoons, kangaroo rats and fox tracks to name a few. Overall, a pretty good time.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU VENTURE OUT ONTO THE DUNES IN THE SPECIAL LEVEL OF HELL THAT IS TEXAS SUMMER
GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!!
(Good photo opportunities for those with feet made of steel)
The website says $15/night. Don't be fooled: there's a "utility" fee, and you also have to pay the day use fee on top of camping. 2 days = $60.
It's a lovely spot, though, and there's nowhere else on this lonely highway.

We missed White Sands due to the government shut down, so we made an effort to put this on our travel route! So glad we did! We stayed two nights, which was sufficient. It was the perfect amount of time to sit and relax, go out in the dunes and explore, and enjoy the nice weather. We were able to get in without reservations, but it was pretty full. I think we would make reservations slightly in advance next time. However somehow we ended up with the best spot in the park! Site 10 is bellied right up to the side of the dunes! Our only wish is that there is more to do in the immediate area. We would have stayed longer if there were a few things to do within a 20 minute radius. However we did get laundry done close by! Fair warning, the cell/reception reception was only available at the top of a dune. We were not able to get anything throughout the park otherwise.

This was an overnight stope enroute to Waco, TX. Stayed on Sunday and it was very quiet. No one close by, but it's probably a different story on weekends and holidays.
There is a reservation system and you have the ability to pre-register your vehicle and trailer. Once you get to the park, all you need to do is get your parking passes for your vehicle and trailer. The nightly fee is $15 per night, but be aware that they also add a $4 per person per night entry fee. Hookups are electricity (50 amp), and water. Sewer dump is close to entrance of the park.
Site #12 is 60 ft total driveway length, so each site in the reservation system is for total length of your trailer and vehicle(s). The day we stayed, it was very windy with clouds of dust. Might be a common occurrence here. Sand is everywhere. You can rent discs at the visitor center to ride the dunes; or you can hike the dunes. The dunes is a massive expanse of sand so be sure you are aware of your surroundings and know how to navigate your way back to your campsite.
Overall, a pleasant overnight stay. Anything longer than overnight is "iffy" in my opinion, since there are limited attractions in the area.

We stumbled upon this park while driving through the middle of nowhere Texas. All we wanted was an easy place to spend a single night and we got even more than we had hoped. A nice level paved site with power & water hook-ups, a view of the dunes, and an awesome sunset to top it all off. While I wouldn't say this is a destination state park where you would want to spend a whole week, for a single night stay it was pretty fantastic!

Arrived late and self served for payment.
Staff the next morning were kind and helped us buy a toboggan.
Water and power hookups with hot showers nearby.
What a memorable stop for play in the Sandhills with camping adjacent.
Definitely recommend!
Wind can get going, Mind your awnings.
Enjoy!

This was our 2nd visit here. Last year we visited and reviewed with a 33’ TT. This year we returned with a 42’ 5th wheel.
The pull throughs become back in parallel parking if someone is parked in the space behind you. Fine for us. But we witnessed three other fifth wheels have issues while there. So if you are pulling 35’ or less you’ll have less issues with that. If you are bigger and good with backing, you’ll be fine in the longer spaces.
The sand has always seems to have expanded quite a bit into the pull through spaces. Making it very hard to keep our wheels out of the very soft sand and still clear the electric post. Just be conscious when pulling in. Our dually would have gotten stuck for sure.
The other reason for a 3 star review is simply the lack of things to do in the park and area. Once you wander the dunes, and slide down them. That’s it. The town is depressed and Odess is 35 mins away. So two nights are more than enough time spent here.
Side note: the trash cans were overflowing for two days as well, which is odd for Texas state parks.

The campground was full, so the staff offered us a primitive spot in the equestrian area. It had water but no electric. We absolutely loved our stay! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because we had to pay the same price for a primitive site as a W/E site in the campground. It was a parking lot with a water spigot. We truly enjoyed our stay though! The sand dunes are beautiful, the staff was very welcoming, and the bathrooms were clean and stocked! We would stay again!
