Our Take

The Bahai House of Worship is completely unexpected, especially given the location in a cute little Chicago suburb. It’s the only one of its kind in North America. Be on the lookout for instances of the number nine (nine is the last number in the decimal system, practitioners of Bahá'í believe it symbolizes perfection and completion) in the gardens and architecture. You can visit the auditorium and marvel at the views of Lake Michigan from the many windows and glass dome ceiling. Remember to be respectful of the Bahai, and don't take any pictures inside the auditorium. There is also a visitor center just down the steps near the main parking lot with a gift shop and lots of information about the history of the Bahai religion. Anyone who enjoys unique architecture, peaceful gardens, or world history will enjoy a visit to the Bahá'í House of Worship.

“One of only seven Baha'i temples in the world”

One of only seven Baha'i temples in the world at present, this unique structure symbolizes unity and invites prayer to God. The quiet serenity of the Baha'i House of Worship reflects the spiritual truths of the Baha'i Faith: the oneness of God, the oneness of humanity and the oneness of religion. Like all Baha'i Houses of Worship, the temple in Wilmette is circular in shape, has nine sides and is surrounded by exquisite gardens and fountains.

A beautiful temple tucked away in the near north suburbs of Chicago. The landscape is incredible, and the temple is stunning. A great place to go on a walk or run to from Northwestern University, and a fascinating piece of architecture and religious history you'd never expect to find in Wilmette.
