We take them all -- our beer, our food, and our music-- equally seriously. And we take great effort to combine them all to create a haven for all who share our appreciation for drinking, eating and being merry. Beer lovers rejoice. With more than 25 handpicked microbrews on tap we have you covered. And that’s before adding our house brews, handcrafted by our brewmaster on site to the mix. From the aggressively hopped IPA Bad Influence to the oh-so-strong Take Her Home Belgian Tripel, our house brews not only pack a punch, but they are sure to awaken your taste buds. Beer aficionados and casual drinkers are encouraged to seek out our head brewer Roger for a tour of the premises or to talk shop. Large stunning copper fermentation vessels align the restaurant and contribute to a unique dining experience. The setting is a perfect match for our eclectic American cuisine. Menu favorites include BBQ duck quesadilla, white lasagna and Alaskan cod in a hazelnut sage brown butter sauce. No, this isn’t your typical “bar food” – though the LAB Burger is to die for. Everything is fresh farm to table. As mentioned above, we also take being merry very seriously. And while that’s true daily, we add live music and DJs to the bill on weekends. Award winning brewmaster Roger Bott has been brewing beer for over 20 years. While not a real doctor, Roger was bestowed the Dr. Hops nickname from the brewing community for his scientific background. Not only did Roger spend more than a decade working at Amgen, but he also studied the fundamentals of brewing in college, taking courses in Hops and Bitterness, Yeast Fundamentals, Grains, and Water Chemistry. Coupling the science with an outside the box creative approach to brewing helped Roger win numerous Hop Off’s, four Amgen brewing competitions and two first place medals at the Ventura County Corporate Brew Competition. The beer doctor then took his knowledge to Holland and Belgium where he brewed for pubs in Breda, Antwerp and Brugge before returning to California to open up his own gastropub. Today Dr. Hops can usually be found in The LAB, brewing up his favored Belgian and west coast hoppie stylings. Executive Chef Wes Pumphrey was born and raised in Los Angeles. Wes lived in San Francisco and worked at La Folie perfecting classic French technique and eventually helped open the Monk's Kettle, a gastropub in the Mission District. He moved back to Los Angeles and worked at Craft Beer Bar in Century City, opened the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills, and worked for Jose Andres at the Bazaar. His focus is American with an emphasis on Southern cuisine while reinventing classics... elevated comfort food..
