“A haunted asylum with a dark past..”

This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. Glenn Dale Hospital was a tuberculosis sanatorium and isolation hospital in Glenn Dale, Maryland, in the United States. It is a large facility, consisting of 23 buildings on 216 acres, that was built in 1934 and closed in 1981 due to asbestos. Though it is now closed and may be eventually demolished, for decades it was an important public health institution near Washington, DC. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Park Police patrol the hospital grounds regularly. The buildings are characterized by broken glass, peeling paint, corroded walls and overgrown vines. Several of the buildings also have collapsed roofs. The children's hospital building and adult hospital building are the most widely explored structures by local trespassers. This is primarily due to their close distance to Glenn Dale Road, a local street that bisects the hospital grounds. Popular belief is that the large incinerator present on the hospital grounds was used for the destruction of human remains.  Both the children's and adults' buildings are connected by a series of underground tunnels, like many sanitariums. These walkways join the basements of both buildings together. The basements of the hospital buildings are extremely dangerous and filthy. Large pieces of rusty, sharp metal, cloth and debris hang from the ceiling, and the buildings contain large amounts of asbestos and lead paint. Each hospital basement has its own morgue. Today, these walkways are littered with garbage, broken glass, and graffiti. The hospital basements are also infested with rats and bats. In addition, parts of the walkways are flooded with nearly 3 feet of water. Some say that experimental treatments performed on the unfortunate patients resulted in a  number of uprisings that led to brutal deaths, and a few escapes. Paranormal investigators insist that this sanatorium is home to a number of ghosts that still roam the halls. NOTICE: The property is most definitely private, and still patrolled by police. Explore at your own risk.

A cop lives on the property. He is extremely rude and out for blood. I stopped by his cruiser to ask if I could walk the road and take pictures, and almost got arrested for criminal trespassing! I couldn't believe it how rude he was when I was so polite and considerate! I was asking if I could walk the road, NOT trespass and he read me the riot act, yelled and asked if everyone is as much of an asshole as I am. :O

I have been there twice and never saw a cop. Granted I went early (i.e., 7 am on a Sunday morning), but still. As long as you are hiding behind the buildings you would be okay. Make sure to bring gloves and a high quality flashlight, as the place is very dark due to the windows being boarded up on the front. Since they are boarded on the front, you can walk freely in the main buildings and not have to worry about someone seeing you.

I never found the morgue in the children's hospital, but the one in the adult hospital is ridiculously easy to find. Getting into the buildings can be tricky, and the place does have an eerie feel. I never went into the basement or above the second floor, sticking to lighted areas.

The tunnels in the basement are something I never saw, as every entryway I would have seen for that had stagnant water. It would have been cool to go in those but I was a scaredy-cat as the first time I went alone.

All in all, Glenn Dale was awesome and I would love to go back. I got amazing photos there.

My friend & I went here and we walked through, we parked away from the building and walked to it and didn't see any cops. It was really cool and is so big I would recommend going! There are no trespassing signs so just be careful!

You can't get on the property (as far as i know) but when you drive slowly by you can easily see how huge and creepy this place is. If you're in the area, might as well drive by.
