“Close to the Superstition Mountains”
Teddy Roosevelt called the Superstition Mountains "the most beautiful panorama nature has created". You'll see, not far from the Mesa/Apache Junction KOA, where giant saguaro cacti rise from the Sonoran Desert floor against a backdrop of craggy granite ramparts. Drive the 145-mile Apache Trail loop, resplendent with deep canyons, rugged trails and pristine lakes. Also nearby, climb a short path up to ancient cliff-dweller Indian ruins at Tonto National Monument. Explore with off-road jeep tours or guided horseback rides into the foothills. Phoenix is 30 miles west of the campground, with great restaurants, museums and a choice of Major League Baseball spring training games. A heated pool, a hot tub, assorted games and fine hospitality await at KOA. Savor them as the sun sets over the mountains. Pool: Open all year. Max pull thru: 65 feet.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on November 20, 2022This is a nice looking in-town KOA, with most sites a little close together, but the trees and landscaping make it feel pretty nice. The "dog park" was disappointing: a tiny, 10 foot by 10 foot chain link fenced area. We did find a large empty field across the street that we used for dog walks. We tried the WiFi but found it to be unusable, but our AT&T and Verizon both worked well. Our site was unusually wide, but poorly laid out, with the electric and water hookup in the far back-right corner, and the sewer literally 60 feet away in the front-left. There was no way to position our motorhome to reach all the utilities, even parked diagonally across the site. The campground said many sites have utilities in strange places so they have 50-amp extension cables they loan to guests, but they were all loaned out already. They instead loaned us a 30-amp extension cable, and a water hose since our two 25-foot hoses combined were not long enough to reach the spigot. We asked to be moved but were told no other sites were available. I asked if we could be charged for a 30-amp site instead of the 50-amp site we reserved, since there was no way for us to access the 50-amp connection but the office said no. Once we were plugged in, our Progressive EMS kept shutting down power to our rig due to low voltage (below 104 volts). A camp host tested the pedestal, saw low voltage, but said there was nothing he could do. Another camp host we spoke with later said there have been other electrical problems and the system will be upgraded this summer. The next morning we asked to be moved, as there was an empty site 2 sites down (as suggested by a camp host) but were told all sites are already reserved. No one ever checked into that site during our stay. The person in the office didn't seem very interested in helping find a solution for us. We made it through our two night stay, using as little electricity as possible, and left frustrated. We will not return.

The previous reviewer said it all very well and quite accurate. Check in people were very nice, gentleman who show showed us to our site was helpful. Site was clean and as previously described. At check in they provided a slip of paper that said the water was going to be turned off at 8:00am the next morning. Okay, thanks for the warning. I went out at 7:30 to fill the RV tank and the water was already off. We had to deal with noisy dogs - which the office tried to address but was unsuccessful. Traffic noise, etc. I'd avoid this location - you can do MUCH better for the money.

Check in people nice, gentleman who showed us to our spot was very friendly. Sites are gravel, fairly level. Gravel is small so it sticks in your shoes and then you track it in.
We had to leave a day early - they do not give refunds. They have a sign at check in - they are not hiding the policy but I still find it irritating.
This is the second time I have stayed there. Water pressure is low, didn't use cable. Had an electrical short in the 30amp side so had to use a converter and hooked up to 50amp. Test the connections before you hook up.
Noisy, lots of noisy road traffic and both times I have been here there have been lots of barking dogs that just don't shut up.
You can find much nicer for less money.

Rate describes pull-thru, fairly level FHU site on gravel with some rocks and desert plantings. Nice folks at check-in, escorted to site quickly. Bathrooms/showers/laundry were nice but woefully inadequate in size for the number of residents. Pool was nice and well-heated, but had funky debris on the bottom that was not cleaned during our stay. Gravel streets are noisy with vehicles and people walking. Tiny dog park also inadequate for the number/size of dogs. Lots of nearby road noise with an over-abundance of 4-wheelers and motorcycles. Excellent service with both ATT & Verizon. (Cell tower in sight...) If/when we come back to this area we'll stay elsewhere. Too pricey for the deficits noted.

Quiet, clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and polite. Although families were here with children, the park was quiet and calm once the sun went down.

This was a decent place. I liked that it wasn’t too large and was fairly quiet. There were barking dogs across from us which wasn’t the fault of the park but still annoying. Very nice people running it, nice laundry and showers, spots are pretty level. Sites are fairly close together, wifi for Verizon was useless and no restaurants or stores close by. Overall it was completely reasonable and worked fine.

Well run campground, very clean. Had a short stay, pull through with full hookups, site 53 which was right by the entrance. This worked perfect for our needs as we were in and out visiting family but also quiet at night!

I came to the Phoenix area to get the diesel heater in my van serviced. The reviews of the campgrounds that were near the service center on the west side of Phoenix were so terrible that I decided to drive 40 miles out of my way to this KOA. I was not disappointed and would do it again in a heartbeat. The RV park was clean, quiet, nicely landscaped, and well maintained. I arrived after the main office was closed but was welcomed by two gents in a golf cart that escorted me to my site. My gravel site was level and had a freshly painted picnic table. It feels like nit picking to say anything negative but I would note that there was no cable TV hook up and the internet speed/connection was so bad that I used my phone’s mobile hot spot instead. KOA’s can feel a bit removed from being out in nature and they are never the least expensive place to stay but they are dependably nice. For that reason I will often seek a KOA when I need a place to stay for the night.
