“One of Americas best pubs!”
If you love beer, you'll love the Thirsty Monk! Recognized by national media as one of the best beer bars in the world, and dedicated to keeping their beer menu fresh, they tapped over 1,200 different beers in 2012!. The upstairs bar is a bright and lively space that features American Craft Beers with 20 constantly rotating tap lines. High ceilings and a hopping atmosphere complete with large glass doors that open onto the outdoor porch – perfect for having a beer while you watch Asheville walk by. Or, take the stairs down to the basement level where you'll find the Belgian Bar (50 Commerce St.) The stone walls, rustic wood and leather couches invite you to relax and take your time enjoying one (or more) of the 16 Belgian, European and RARE beers on draught at any time. An extensive leather-bound bottle list will impress beer-snobs and novices alike. Both floors offer a unique “Beer You Can Eat” menu that incorporates local beers into the recipes every day of the week, and we open for lunch Fri-Sun.
Went every night for the week I spent in Asheville. They have three different bars. Down stairs serving all Belgian beer, ground floor serving American micros and delicious tapas and the rooftop becomes a speak easy later in the evening serving finely hand crafted cocktails. A must visit! The mac and cheese is to die for!!!
One of the neatest parts about this place is the "Beer You Can Eat" menu, where they've curated a special list of foods that incorporate local beers into the food. Really unique place.
Cool 3-level bar featuring a different selection of beers n style on each floor. Affordable n in the heart of Asheville
In a town awash with local craft beer pride, the Thirsty Monk is an outlier, bucking local flavor in favor of obscure European and far-flung American ales. Bend an elbow at the downstairs bar, where you can choose from one of 16 drafts including Italy's Birrificio Italiano and Chicago's Off Color. A 100-plus bottle list offers even more options like Cascade Kriek from Portland, Oregon, and Omnipollo Mazarin from Sweden. Upstairs, find a second bar with 20 additional taps (no repeats!) and an equally impressive bottle selection. Keep climbing: You'll ultimately reach Top of the Monk, a rooftop cocktail bar serving classics like a Corpse Reviver #2 and The Zombie.
