A whole different type of VW bug

According to Phyllis Bruce, this is a giant spider made of a Volkswagen body near Avoca, Iowa, “is just sitting on this lot for no apparent reason!” Not apparent to YOU, my dear Phyllis, but just wait until sundown… actually, get the heck outta there!

My friends and I saw this odd piece on the app on our way to CO. We pulled off to check it off. We had to google search for it, since the app did not have the accurate street location. When we found it ee bursted out laughing! The photo is misleading and it was way smaller in person. We had a good laugh and took a few photos.

Definitely worth a stop if you're traveling on I-80 in western Iowa!

According to the book Iowa Curiosities, the spider was constructed by Travis and Angela Campbell across the street from their father Darwin’s home, where it still sits today. Read more: http://bit.ly/1rLkBbd

This is a fantastic stop for photos, fun and, if you are so inclined, geocaching ! We are fortunate that the owner and creator, "Doc" stopped by while we were visiting the spider. Cool, creative, and captivating!

Little bit hard to find but fun when we did. Note that this is a residential area and the picture is a bit deceiving. Be mindful of the person's neighbors.

We also got lost using the Navigate directions. The review above helped us. The address is 457 S Chestnut which is the intersection of W Washington and S Chestnut. Only a minute off of the interstate so if you want to see it for yourself, go for it. There is nothing there beyond the car with spider legs. It's pretty much in someone's yard. I've added a picture of it next to a tree so you can get a good idea of how big it is. A car with stilts...

Just went!!! Great photo op if you enjoy VW's or just interesting things throughout our country. Glad we made the detour. Well worth the little bit of time in this VWers opinion. =D

Follow Chestnut and just keep going and you will see it across from a newer red car garage. Good photo op.
